"I'm merely remarking upon the paradox of asking a masked man who he is."

what did we learn from the memories that haunted?
you stare ahead with a look that defies
everything i thought i felt and knew i wanted.
tears stream down from my eyes.

one day we wanted an end
to the friendship we ever bared.
it's hard to comprehend
that the next day, we cared.

like a tempered metronome,
to and fro, to and fro,
as in a hurricane on a ramshackle home,
we go

here we are again
building up our walls
it's astounding how we tend
to not learn anything at all

all the time-even now-i think
would it have been such a sin
to reach the brink
and just give in?

what i know now and what i had then
break into pieces and bits
and here we are again
what did i learn from it?

Written about struggling with relationships--especially friends. Staying in the relationship is no longer healthy, but you don't want to abandon the years of connection that you've built up. So you're basically left teeter-tottering.
