"the quiet scares me because it screams the truth"

Writing poetry is like a blooming flower;
It may be hard, but writing it gives you power.
You can pour out your deep feelings
Or you can rejoice your happy endings.
It's how you can kill people with words
Or praise them like beautiful birds.
You can trap your inner most thoughts in a rhyme
Or you can let them explode with the soft sound of a chime.
You can use him and her to hide your identity
Or you can reveal yourself in the end by using the word we.
You can talk about people behind their backs,
Let them read it, and the truth is they will never know the facts.
You can write a love story, true or fiction,
It all depends on your own diction.
Poetry is writing that soothes the soul and opens the heart.
Poetry can bring people together or tear people apart.
Poetry can explain someone's feelings or confuse their mind.
Poetry has a way of portraying the truth or making someone blind.
Poetry is a beautiful and amazing thing.
Poetry has twists and turns that somehow always cling.
Write a word, call it poetry.
Write 100 lines of meaning, call it poetry.
Write a bunch of random things, call it poetry.
Poetry isn't defined when the reader calls it a poem.
Poetry is, when it comes from the writer loving what they've written all on their own.
