You Weren't There
I called your name,
you weren't there to hear it.
I reached out to touch you,
but you weren't there to feel it.
 I cried tears of sorrow,
you weren't there to wipe them away.
I fell to the ground in pain,
you weren't there to pick me back up.
My hands were cold from winter winds,
you weren't there to warm them up again.
 I laughed a hollow laugh,
you weren't there to laugh with me.
I slept alone all night and dreamed of you,
you weren't there to hold me close.
I wrote a poem of eternal love,
you weren't there to read it.
I watched as they lowered you into the ground,
the only time I wished you weren't there.
