You Told Me
You Told Me
You told me you’d love me until the day you die
You told me you would never abuse me, spite me or lie
You told me I was your everything from the moment we met
You told me you would do anything to keep this relationship from a wreck
You told me you were sorry for spitting angry words
Told me you didn't mean it and your anger was cured
You told me you were impulsive with your heavy-born fists
You told me you couldint control the words dealt from your lips
You told me I was worthless, your words thick and hot
You told me you were sorry when I knew you were not
You told me all these truths that you always tried to bend
You told me your feelings hadn’t changed from the beginning to the end
You told me you were sorry but your mouth reversed those words
You told me you had sinned but your fists kept inflicting more hurt
You told me not to leave when I packed up my things
You told me you would find me no matter where I hid
You told me all these things that I had always thought were true
So when you told me you loved me...I turned and left you

My name is Marianna but my friends call me Marinara as a joke. I am fourteen years old and love to write with a passion...I have never experienced nor been through the things depicted in this poem but when I wrote it, it felt powerful and expressive. It tells the story of a girl who found herself trapped in an abusive relationship and her struggles throughout time.
