An Ode to Cheerleading
My one true love.
The light,
and life of mine,
you stuck with me,
all through my time.
While your pain is excruciating,
your voice can set me free;
As the blaring yells
I’ve participated in
have eerily grown on me,
You linger through my heart,
while my world changes.
The fear of letting you down
still holds me in cages.
Through our dangerous stunts,
you had faith in me.
Pushing my strength
until I couldn’t see.
The trial and injury
you’ve delivered upon me,
still ring my soul
with the love you’ve declared.
My heart hurts,
with your jeweled favorites.
Always wondering why I can’t be
one of them
on your list.
But still
your presence
taught me to protect
and cherish
life’s hardest hits.
