Biology Reading

I look at the textbook

With tired eyes at midnight

And this is what I see:

This boring chapter about vertebrates

Assigned to me

I learn about silly looking fish

Tetrapods and Amniotes too

And this is what I know:

That if I don't finish reading,

My grade will have to go

I look at the pages once more

With eyes no longer tired

I see the end of the tunnel

Being a bit more inspired

Then I better hurry

To get the grade I long desired!

The author's comments:

This piece was written one night while I was doing my Biology homework. This is a parody of the famous "I look at the world" by Langston Hughes and readers might notice similar rhythmic patterns and rhyming schemes. I wrote this to encourage myself to study despite the difficult reading material. I believe this would relate to many students who are also struggling in their classes and might see this as inspiration too.
