Toilet ode

White and shiny Porcelain

Ceramic water bowl

To flush away the fetid waste

Of food that once was whole

A handle hangs upon the side

The shiny pale pot

To sprinkle water down

On things that smell like rot

A tiny wooden outhouse

Home to a latrine

Somewhere that issues rest

Somewhere where you can pee

Drop off a hefty burden

And things that ail you most

A place we all return to

A place that’s in our home.
