little boy
little boy wandering the streets alone
for as long as he had ever known
little boy wandering the streets alone
for he had no home of his own
little boy visited the old man
who was withered and dying and could barely stand
took a wrinkled palm into his own hands
and asked what home to him was on this land
old man chuckled and tipped his head
home for me is with my wife he said
where the fire burns high and warm and red
that is it, my home ahead
little boy thought the old man’s answer through
and thought hard about what he should do
decided although nice, it wasn’t for him
the man gave him a reassuring grin
little boy wandering the streets alone
for as long as he had ever known
little boy wandering the streets alone
for he had no home of his own
little boy visited the bakery at the side of the street
where the woman’s hands were dusted with flour and wheat
rows of pastries in the case were both savory and sweet
what a pity, he could never afford a treat
when asked about home the woman sighed
outside my bakery, there’s always a line
but they’ll be gone in a matter of time
i take residence on the floor up high
little boy thought the baker’s answer through
and thought hard about what he should do
she invited him to stay for a while
but he slipped away, in his place, people piled
little boy wandering the streets alone
for as long as he had ever known
little boy wandering the streets alone
for he had no home of his own
little boy met a wanderer who had traveled far and wide
impatient two-toned eyes flicking from side to side
and asked if she was to decide
where she thought her home would lie
wanderer told him, she once had a friend
but those joyous times had come to an end
i reminisce for the times when she didn’t lie dead
but for now, i wander far and ahead
little boy thought the wanderer’s answer through
and thought hard about what he should do
eternally a lost man was no way to live
and thanked the traveler, though she had nothing to give
little boy wandering the streets alone
for as long as he had ever known
little boy wandering the streets alone
for he had no home of his own
little boy found another boy like him
a boy in suspenders and a frame that was thin
the expression he bore, for his age, was grim
little boy thought the chance of an answer was thin
my mommy disappeared when i was barely older than nine
my daddy, years after left me and died
a friend took me in, said with him i could shine
for now, i’m happy, for now, i'm fine
little boy thought the boy’s answer through
and thought hard about what he should do
he didn’t have friends with room to spare
little boy sighed and shook his head in despair
little boy wandering the streets alone
for as long as he had ever known
little boy wandering the streets alone
for he had no home of his own
little boy saw a crowd and went to see
a man in the middle he must be a king
fingers adorned with shining jewels upon rings
king, is your home full of royalty?
king said, as you know my home is the castle
full of riches and laughter and dazzle
but being in the spotlight is quite a hassle
i prefer the quiet streets of road travel
little boy thought the king’s answer through
and thought hard about what he should do
he didn’t have money or gems to pay
king wished him well on little boy’s way
little boy wandering the streets alone
for as long as he had ever known
little boy wandering the streets alone
for he had no home of his own
little boy stumbled upon a runaway
with crazed green eyes, who smelled of decay
he stumbled away, did not want to be prey
but runaway had something to say
home for me might as well be jail
in return for saving me chaos will prevail
come with me i’ll tell you more tales
unlike now you’ll never ail
little boy thought runaway’s answer through
and thought hard about what he should do
a life of crime would be over in no time
the entire journey would be an uphill climb
little boy wandering the streets alone
for as long as he had ever known
little boy wandering the streets alone
for he had no home of his own
little boy reflected on the people he met that day
he wondered how they easily found their way
contemplated what they had said
and started walking away
old man valued family and warmth
baker would work all day, even when her hands were worn
wanderer’s home was lost with her friend
boy could do nothing but depend
king lived in a castle full of riches
runaway came from a trap full of witches
all these people had their own homes
but little boy was all alone
little boy wandering the streets alone
for as long as he had ever known
little boy wandering the streets alone
for he had no home of his own
little boy thought and had nothing to say
he had nowhere permanent and stable to stay
looked at his options and started to weigh
what was home for him today?
home for him was a home full of tension
home was harsh on them, he was no exception
but others were there to show him what’s true
his mother and father showed love for him too
little boy wandering the streets alone
for as long as he had ever known
little boy wandering the streets alone
little boy found his way home.
