All Of Them

Glazed eyes stare back

Above the eyes a medicine rack

Everyday thinking about it

His brain tells him “no” and throws a fit

He hasn't told anyone but his reflection

He is just a man looking for redemption

A man haunted by his mistakes

Thinks daily about driving the stake

Glazed eyes stare back

Above the eyes a medicine rack

Below the glazed eyes a mouth

Saying over and over the oath

The oath of not jumping in front of a train

It’s driving him insane

His trembling hands tremble some more

As he regretfully locks the door

Glazed eyes stare back

Above the eyes a medicine rack

On that rack is candy for him

Because without it, life is grim

Taking some candy some more some more

While his mom bangs on the door

One two three four

His body’s core creates an outroar

Five six seven eight

Just wanting the pain to alleviate

Closed eyes stare back

Above the eyes an empty medicine rack

I wrote this poem while I was in a psych ward struggling with my mental health. I see poems as a healthier outlet for my feelings than self-harm is; so I hope someone else could find value in it as I have.
