The days are getting longer

But I must not falter.

Too many people depend on me,

So I will take the final stand.

And if it is meant to be,

My story will be grand.

I charge the front lines

Through the oaks and the pines,

My comrades laying down their lives

So the rest of us may survive.

But it is too late…

Try as we might

And as much as we fight,

There remains no light at the end of our tunnel.

We have failed.

But my story does not end here.

I continue to push on

Until the crack of dawn,

A lowly pawn of my kingdom.

My armor cracked, and chipped

One leg in the crypt

Nearing my expiration.

This is my final stand,

On this blood soaked land.

I will not be here to witness this battles conclusion

After all, this was all just a mad king's delusion.

I take my final breaths, knowing death,

Will end my suffering.
