What You Taught Me
You used to tell me to wish upon a star,
You used to tell me not to go too far,
You used to tell me to say please and thank you
You used to tell me when it was appropriate to say ‘i love you’
You used to show me how to tie my shoes
You used to show me how to brush my hair too
You used to show me how to bake
You even showed me how to play patty cake
You used to tell me that I wasn’t always going to agree
You used to tell me how much you loved me
You used to tell me stories about all the things you’d been through
But you never told me how hard it would be to live without you
