Blackbird
“Black bird singing in the dead of night
Take these broken wings and learn to fly”
- The Beatles
To fly, to fly, far away,
to be fixed, but from what?
With this broken world and this broken society
What is there but no point in aiming to be fixed.
Only to be broken again.
Corrupt from the ground,
Built up into normal, boundaries set.
Rules applied, follow them or else.
To be fixed would be to be corrupt like them.
Power hungry, secretive, the ones we call ‘in charge’
The rules fit them, just like their suits.
To go against, but then be broken,
Silenced by General Sir John Monash (the sticky green).
If you dare to break that though,
A sharp ending for you.
“Take these broken wings and learn to fly”,
But how?
How ma’am?
How do we do that?
To take them and fly is to set your own path,
A path of your own choosing.
To be broken but be fixed, fixed by you.
Be Fixed but to break free,
Free of shackles, free of chains,
Free from their lab coats,
and their human obsessions.
Their time bombs and memory wipes.
Free from being the guinea pig.
But it's listening so don't speak,
Its recording so dont look,
But don't hide because you can’t run.
Your never alone so don't try it,
But if you do, you can't deny it
Because soon enough they'll find you.
So what if they do?
Pay your time and get back to basics,
You'll be seen as good in their eye
Right?
Go and fight a war and die in glory,
Or Knock on some doors to tell his story,
A normal life if you will.
But In this corrupt world, be the one right thing,
Don't listen to those, walk on your toes
And don't break the ice.

My name is Chelsea Wilson, and I love writing postmodernist poetry. My biggest inspirations are Allen Ginsburg and bob dylan. In this poem, its all about the corruption of the government and how much control they actually have over us, and how we should break out but do it in a way that's seen as "respectable and to their standards". This poem was also inspired by the song blackbird by the Beatles. The lyrics of the song especially the chorus hold deep value to my poem.
