Solid Perception
The oval sockets rise and set,
perceiving for the mind to see.
A boon in joyous colored set
For their aid we’re in their debt,
but we abusively drown out their plea,
and reward them with the sting of sweat.
Pupils popping out, causing bystanders to fret.
Emotionally known to be anything but glee.
Avoid Association with this avid anger outlet.
When gaze is cast a view discerns an image, yet,
What's beneath a thriving mass imposing upon history?
In depth, perception lies within your skulls optic duet.
Sadness sows a stream of wet
tears to drift skin out to sea.
Sorrows fluid drowning out, all that it has met.
Without their aid, none are let
to form a solid memory,
to gaze upon a bright sunset,
or know an image to forget.

For a period of two and a half weeks when I was younger my eyesight was greatly affected after I looked into the sun for too long (not the most intelligent decision, but I was young). This experience really made me appreciate my eyes once my sight returned to normal since I had seen what it is like to live with them at half capacity. I was inspired to write this poem because of this experience, and it was greatly influenced by my belief that we take our eyes for granted.
