The Dancer

Who are you? I recognize your golden green eyes,

But they’re not the ones that used to look into my soul.

Who are you? I have memories of you in my passenger seat,

Yet I see that it remains empty.

Who are you? I remember your smile,

but It seems so much brighter when I'm not with you.

Who are you? I know the sound of your voice

But it’s not the one that used to say “I love you”

So tell me, did you find what you were looking for?

Someone who was better than me,

Someone who was right for you?

Or did you throw it all away, hoping to find something that wasn't there.

Took a chance on the kid from Arkansas, because he was the one you came to

Whenever we had a dark night. Him, not me.

But who am I to stop you? I wasn't what your heart desired,

You were miserable with me, but brighter than ever before with him.

If you are reading this,

Take care of The Dancer. Do not let her go.

Show her the world she couldn't see with me.

Keep the distance out of your head, one day she will be in your arms.

And on that day the sun will shine, the birds will sing a song,

And she will look in your eyes and you will see in that moment,

Just how special, The Dancer is,

And the words “I love you” will trace her lips.

Me? Well I try to tell myself I’ve moved on,

But there's something not letting me reach the air, reach freedom from her,

It's pulling me down into the deep blue sea.

There's so much I have to say but if I open my mouth the water will fill my lungs,

I’d drown as the memories hit me like a flash flood,

So I remain silent, and just watch from afar,

The Dancer, the one who has my heart.
