Foreign Illusion (of Love) (Villanelle Poem)

I am in love with a foreign illusion.

That which is burning bright in my dreams

My feelings are simply a foregone conclusion.

Love is a dangerous game with fanatical allusion

I will never win it, so I shall sing a loser's requiem

I am in love with a foreign illusion.

Disgusted by the forbidden way I feel, trembling in reclusion

Internally, there is a wilted forest surrounded by screams

My feelings are simply a foregone conclusion.

Yet you possess a devilish intellect and a locked heart of fusion

With cheeks as pink as strawberry ice cream

I am in love with a foreign illusion.

Is this love grounded in reality, or is it rooted in delusion?

Worlds apart, connected only by a red heart seam

My feelings are simply a foregone conclusion.

Can you live up to my idealized conclusion?

Torturing myself over-thinking how you see me really damaged my self-esteem

I am in love with a foreign illusion.

My feelings are simply a foregone conclusion.

I must be honest, I find this poem to be one of my favorite pieces of work.

Aren't emotions so confusing?
