Words Can Hurt
The insensitive jokes about sensitive topics. Trying to make people laugh, but yet still tearing me down. How do you not see it? How can you possibly not see it? If you don’t have anything nice to say don't say it at all. We've all heard that phrase before, we’ve all rolled our eyes at some point when somebody says it to us. But it’s important, because sometimes words can hurt. They can really hurt….You take pride in your puns that push other people down because you don’t realize your words can hurt. You didn’t know how bad you made me feel until it was too late. You didn't know enough about me to make assumptions about who I am or what was going on in my life because you never really talked to me. It’s not fair to hate, to judge, to mock…. to joke. It’s not fair you get to live your life causing pain but not feel any of it. One day it will catch up to you, and one day you will realize that how you feel, well…you've made other people feel that way too.

This is a pastiche based on Shylock's monologue from Shakespeare's "The Merchant of Venice". I was inspired by an expierence I had with mistreatment in the past and lead me to write this piece.
