Childhood Dreams
Very few things make me beam more than the embrace of my mother,
Or the warm smile of my father
Childhood dreams, they curl around my thoughts,
But I’d never call them a bother
Memories of wishing that I was an astronaut,
And at the same time, playing in sand lots
Some dreams were grand, fantastical -- for instance:
I fondly remember dancing around as if I was a princess
Twirling around with my mother, pretending she was the queen
Holding the hands of my father, the king
They are my everything
They are the ones who allowed me to begin
Countless times have I fallen, but each time I get back up
Never a time when I simply gave up
Those dreams, they were too strong for me
And I couldn’t simply let them be
Some childhood dreams, they have always lingered in my mind
One lies strong, unyielding, never declined
I wished with my whole heart
That my parents and I would never depart

I was inspired by the dreams I used to have a child about who I would be when I grew up. For the most part, my ambitions have changed, but one thing that will never change is the love I hold for my parents. Hopefully, this poem will sound nostalgic and whimsical.
