The Wolf and the Winter Moon
In the howling night sky
When the wind whips at the trees
And the moon shines
On the frosty ground below
And the only vestige
That something has trod upon this wasteland
Is of the light prints
Of a malevolent beast
That has brought itself on this icy ground
In between the whispering trees
The breeze ruffles its fur
The tendrils snap at its paws
And the moon casts its cold glow upon the creature
The wolf’s eyes stare at the moon
As if provoking a challenge
But like the moon had spoken
The wolf turned and fled the scene
And this creature
With fur as silk
And eyes as stars
Whisks through the snowy ground
In search for a find
The moon follows its path
Boring its light on the trail
Of the wolfs trodden path
In search of its prey
But only does the moon see
That the wolf was not looking for a meal
But only the right place
Of where her cubs have been concealed
She walks up to them
Snow caked on her paws
And softly lays beside them
With a mother’s care
And so the moon sees
That even through this harsh
Winters night
That even the most precious
Things may thrive
And in that final moment
In this winter’s night
The moon stops
its winter light

I like to write mainly about fantasy ideas and this poem was completely based off of one phrase that I had come up with, which became the title of the poem, "The Wolf and the Winter Moon".
