The First Meeting
The first meeting.
It is the one that changes
Everything,
regardless of how profound it may be in the moment.

A moment, a memory which but grows
In significance,
As the dawn turns into dusk,
Light into day into light once again.
The first meeting.

The first
I remember of her was the hair.
Cut short, trimmed down,
Framing her face almost perfectly.

Her smile,
I look away because it is simply too
Dazzling
For mortal eyes.
The first meeting.

Might I mention that I had chosen to never love? A lifetime of searching for the first lovehad led to an infinite state of deprivation.

A physically present
Emotionally absent
Father
Ruins you.
“Daddy issues” is what they call it.

I found myself waiting for the day they’d leave me, like all the rest. Waiting for the day it would all fall apart. The day I would fall apart.

The first meeting.
Dare I hope again?
Dare I hold her hand?
Dare I say her name with mine?

Another glance, I say.
Only once more.
My words are all I have to offer.
For her, I’ll bleed on this paper,
Saying all I wish I could.

The first meeting. The last meeting.
Now, all but a memory.
