What I Can't Do
I cannot tell them what I want to say
I cannot say I’m fine
I cannot put their worries at bay
My arms aren’t free
And neither are my legs
And there are so many places I’d like to be
They look at me with sadness in their eyes
And say they wish I could understand them
Although my ears work just fine
I am rendered immobile
As my body shuts down
And I can no longer act noble
My brain is failing me
It won’t let my body move
And all I get for my troubles is pity

It is about ALS and/or PLS, which are both motor neuron diseases. Both these diseases break down nerves and muscles, resulting in loss of control and movement. ALS progresses faster than PLS, and it often causes disability. PLS causes weakness in the voluntary muscles but doesn't completely disable the being.
