Jawline resembling switchblade

Stagger down the stairs

Hair comes falling in cascade

Headphone symphony blares

Glances down dismayed

Sideline caution errs

Ever since first grade

Cursing past affairs

Life becomes charade

Down creeps the setting sun

Mother lies decayed

What once lived said, now done

Father will evade

Unknown, the guilty one

Innocence downplayed

Those who cannot run

Fists clench, betrayed

Live within another time

Nightmare manmade

Pick away at age-old grime

Claim a new crusade

Disregard the heights well climbed

Ancient sins repaid

Revel in the newfound peacetime

This is one of my favorite pieces that I've written over the past year.
