freedom -
echoes
across mountains and valleys
and prairies and fields
a ghost-like wind
whispering reminders of past
suffering
freedom -
rolls off the lips of youth
easily
little thought is given
to those whose
freedom was
only a dream
freedom -
is supposed to ring from every steeple
and every doorway
but many are too afraid
instead they play deaf and dumb
and only echoes of ignorance can be heard
in the empty doorways
freedom -
should rejoice and be exalted
hiding her face in shame
only further complicates the unending
search
for her
true
inner
self
