Freshman Year

Freshman year is one of the most significant years of all of high school. It is where you find your social status, when you find your academic level, sports wise and also what courses you will precede your high school career. All of these things will dictate what type of path you will go down in.

Making new friends is a critical at my high school. I attend a catholic high school in Modesto, California. At this school they pull students from 28 different cities around the area, which means you will not know a lot of other classmates coming into your first year of high school. For some it is more difficult than others, where they may come from a school or city that nobody else in the class is from, and for most of us that is terrifying. Being social can be easy for some and fairy difficult for others. Most kids are age are still shy to talk to new people (especially the other gender) but to overcome that you have to reach out and think positively. Me for instance, I graduated from a catholic grammar school before coming into CCHS knowing that half of my former classmates will continue down the same path as me. That gives me some lenience and being able to relax knowing that I will know a good portion of my class. I also played for a baseball organization called NorCal Valley Baseball. We are a travel ball team that travels around the area to play in weekend tournaments to try and peruse our careers in baseball. Thankfully a good portion of the former teammates of mine also attend CCHS to make our baseball team a good ball club. This also gives me the opportunity of having previous friendships with other students who have a common interest as me. Besides those people I did not known anybody else that would be attending the school so I wanted to find a way to get to know more of the student population before the year started. I decided to play football knowing I have never played the sport that I could meet and grow a bond with some of the other kids joining the school. I ended up not being the best at the sport but it brought me into the catholic environment of winning and competitiveness to know how they do business. From these examples of my freshman year I recommend all readers to reach out to unfamiliar situations and be you and don’t try to change yourself to be popular. Ignore the nervous feelings and go out with the plan God sent for us to do.

Freshman year is also where you find what type of academic path you wish to proceed with. Some may be interested in Math or Science, some Agriculture or whatever you favor; freshman year is where it all unwinds in your brain. I enjoy the topic of public speaking; therefore I am not afraid to talk in front of the class. From this skill I wish to grow up to have a major in either broadcasting and/or sports law, as you read from above I am deeply into sports. From this standpoint I know what types of electives would fit my future best and also what skills I can improve on to really stand out upon. I’d easily say the grades you receive freshman year will pretty much conclude what academic path you wish to go down on.

From the examples above I am giving you advice how to approach your freshman year with ease and a inside view on how other freshman feel. The situation you may be in may differ from mine but at the end of the day the key concept will always be similar
