Everyone Smile Everyday
Smiling everyday will make you a happier person. Smiling is very contagious. Give a smile, receive a smile. My personal definition of smiling: shows the greatness in one's image, shows how happy someone really is. I believe everyone will smile everyday. No matter how sad or happy you are; you must smile everyday.
No matter the skill, the Varsity Volleyball team makes cuts to the girls who have a bad attitude and rarely smile, no matter how skilled they may be. The girls who are showing their emotion want to be there more than the girls who aren’t showing any emotion. Coaches are looking for the ones who want to be there, not the ones who know their good enough and think they can just blow it off because they think they're the best. They want the ones who are willing to get better.
About a year ago I was placed on the number one 13U supernova volleyball team. I was so proud of myself for making the team. At our very first tournament I shut down and got into my shell and was very quiet and wouldn’t call for the ball, didn’t smile much, I was just playing for myself. After two tournaments of playing in my little shell my parents noticed I wasn’t getting the right amount of playing time. I knew I was doing my best in practice and following all the directions. The next practice I went to I asked my coach what was going on. She told me “Meg, you never show your emotion on and off the court. How am I supposed to know if you're having fun or just being here to be here. When I can see that you’re hype the team gets hype with you. You’re our team leader ”. When I heard that, I told myself is that really true. Am I really not smiling? I smile all the time. Am I really the team's leader? Does it really matter if I’m smiling or not? Why does it matter if I’m fired up? So later that night I went home to my parents and told them what happen. By the feedback they were giving me it seemed like they were agreeing with my coach. We got into a huge arguement. They decided to make a deal with me, that for every game that I play and don’t smile my phone is gone for one day. As soon as I got home from school I finished my homework and took a long nap. When I was at practice it felt different, I was actually having fun and I was so happy to be playing volleyball. The next tournament I went to, I had so much more playing time. I wasn’t playing for myself I was playing for my team, I was getting them fired up, and we ended up winning our first tournament.
After using this real life example, smiling gets you far. Knowing the saying “smiling gets you far”. I’ve learned that smiling does affect your future. Smiling does show the greatest in one's image; I proved to my coach that I belonged on the court and that I was having fun. Smiling everyday will make you a happier person. Don't be embarrassed of who you truly are.
People like you for who you are. That smiling shows that you are interested, that you are enjoying whatever it may be, shows you are happy. Smiling is contagious; give a smile receive a smile.
