Words. I’m addicted to words. A word, by dictionary definition, is a single distinct meaningful element of speech or writing. Of course, words aren’t just simply an element of a sentence that goes with other elements of a sentence to create one fine, dandy sentence – it’s the fundamentals of communication.

Words fly across a page in the most delicate and precious matter, whether put down intricately in cursive or written big and sloppy. They represent a person’s inner thoughts or another’s monotonous speech. Is life even possible without words?

I’m addicted to the beauty of words. When I’m writing in my journal, words pour out from the depth of my heart faster than I can process them. As I read, words combine in a striking sentence that further develop into a paragraph, then a page, then a story that I can marvel and ponder endlessly on. Words reveal their beauty as one reads a piece of literary work that brings valuable emotions for the reader.

I’m addicted to words because they’re powerful. Although, powerful proves its evil and good. Words that someone speaks to me are never forgotten when they send a bullet to my heart; it deeply wounds me. My words, chosen carefully, shoot a bullet back as well. Likewise, words form a motivational speech sends a tingle through my body that makes me feel alive.

In the end, words can do the good or they can do the evil. For me, life is not possible without evil or good, or words itself.

“Words are singularly the most powerful force available to humanity. We can choose to use this force constructively with word of encouragement, or destructively using words of despair. Words have energy and power with the ability to help, to heal, to hinder, to hurt, to harm, to humiliate and to humble.” – Yehuda Berg
