Kiss me and you will see how important I am - Sylvia Plath

The air is traveling through my hair and the water is reaching the edge of my feet. Just the memory of us walking by the river gives me the scent of a million rotting lemons. The tart and the salty combine inside my nose leaving me with the feeling of a broken heart. The string of that sweet smell from a day in the past, a day when we were together, travels through my senses and stops. Today, I wish for the beginning and find myself thinking about that first scent, the cotton candy in the carnival when we went for your birthday and the cold Christmas morning when I asked you to marry me, these have all transformed into a lonely afternoon.
Someone once asked me what loss smells like. I’ve never really known, but this is what I answered.
