Life of Buddy
Sirens blared and shots fired constantly throughout the day. The poor young pup shivered in fear and in cold. Buddy was just a little puppy and had only begun his life a short while ago. This was not how he expected it would be. Buddy lived chained to a fence with little to no water and food. Whenever he received food he scarfed it down so fast that he hardly remembered it was there in the first place. The poor puppy couldn’t bear to live like this anymore. He had to plan his escape or soon his life would come to a miserable ending.
One hot morning as buddy was laying with the 15 other starving, dehydrated dogs, he heard many cars pull up into the driveway. Although he did not know it yet, that was the moment that changed his life forever. A group of about 10 men and women all wearing dirty brown uniforms broke through the fence and were coming towards him with chain cutters and kennels. Buddy was confused what they were doing there. He was nervous that these people were going to hurt him like the others did. However, he soon realized something very different. They started cutting the dogs free from the chains that connected them to the fences. They gave Buddy and the others water and food and wrapped them in warm blankets. He was so over joyed. He could not believe that someone would care enough about him to save him. Buddy willingly hobbled into the small crate. Although it was cramped and dark, he knew that soon his life would get better.
Buddy awakened to a bright light shining over him and many humans with tools who were poking him with sharp objects. They had to perform emergency surgery in order to avoid him loosing his back legs. Because of severe malnutrition as well, the veterinarians questioned Buddy’s chances of survival. He was so skinny that you could see his ribs and bones protruding through his thick fur. Every step he took was slow and wobblily, yet Buddy did not give up hope. A few days later he woke up laying on a soft bed in a little room with lots of toys. Bandages were wrapped all around his legs and they were extremely sore. However, for the first time in a very long time, he was not starving. It felt so weird to him that his stomach did not ache, and his usually wet tongue and nose were not bone dry. The joy that overwhelmed buddy was so great his fluffy tail did not stop wagging. He tried to get up and run around but his legs would not allow him. Buddy had a long road to recovery, but he was too excited to worry.
Many days and nights passed by before Buddy could join in with the other dogs. He had to use wheels to help him walk because his legs were still recovering. While the other dogs got to run freely and play with each other, Buddy had to sit and watch. Jealousy and sadness began to overwhelm him. Every day was the same and although it was better than his last home, he longed to be able to play and have a family. Children and their parents would come in every day but just walk right past his kennel to the dogs who were normal. Buddy just wanted to be adopted but no one wanted him because of his legs. He began to lose hope and start to think that it would never get better. However, one day the trainer took his wheels off and he got to go outside. Buddy was so nervous he did not want to go. This moment was the determining factor on if he could ever walk again. He slowly stood up and his legs were shaking as if there was an earthquake. As he took his first steps he began to realize his legs stopped shaking and he was not wobbling. Buddy began to walk faster and faster until it turned into a run then a sprint. The wind was blowing through his fur and the sun shining down on him. It was the most freeing moment of his life. He refused to stop or else the thrilling experience would be over. Buddy noticed a family with 3 kids watching the dogs playing on the grass and he felt called to run to them. He knew that this would be his time. As he was getting closer and closer he could their attention. Their heads turned and eyes met with his. Their faces lit up like it was Christmas Day and excitement was overflowing within them. Both Buddy and the family knew it was meant to be.
Years pass by and Buddy is living the life of his dreams. He gets to play with kids, run around, get treats, and even wrestle with his new dog friend Koda. Although she is half his size, she can still keep up with his aggressive attitude. Koda and Buddy became best of friends and did everything together. Although she got more attention because she was the puppy now and he was not, he still loved his family with all his little heart. Back when he was chained to a fence, Buddy would never have believed he could make it here. Now he is the happiest dog on the planet and wouldn’t trade it for the world. His life got turned upside now and it was now right-side up.

I have a 2 rescue dogs that I love very much. I wish that I knew what their past lives were like before I got them and this is what I imagine it was like. I hope that people feel happy about the good ending and get inspired to adopt rescue dogs as well.
