The Red Rain Boots
The Red Rain Boots
I have a best friend, her name is Nora, and every time I hear the pitter patter of rain on the roof I know she will take me out of the closet, slip me on and together we will go on a journey. First we bound out of the front door jumping in any puddle we can set our eyes on. We laugh and we giggle as the water splashed up around us. We go exploring for preachers buried deep in the ground pulling the pink wiggly things from the grace. Next we make a mud pie or two only stopping with our fun when Nora’s mom calls us in for lunch. I love my best friend and we will have fun together for forever and a day.
Nora is growing fast now she only takes me out of the closet every once in a while. I miss her dearly, but I know we will have fun soon, I just know it. Though now it has been years since she has taken me out.
I am all dusty now and haven't seen the light for ages. My hope of ever seeing Nora again is dwindling. I long for the days when we would run outside together when the rain pitter pattered on the roof. I don't understand it, why would she leave! We were having such fun together her and me!
Suddenly one day the door of the closet drifted open and light cascaded on me making my red glimmer in the dim light. Someone lifted me out of the closet and to my surprise I see a grown up about Nora’s Mom’s age. She smiled down at me and for an instant I was confused. Then I realized that I knew that smile and it belonged to my best friend. She carried me to the door where there was a little girl with her hair in two braids. I knew instantly that I was going to have a best friend again, that I was going to go on adventures with this little girl and we would jump through the puddles together. I know understood that while Nora and even this little girl will outgrow me I will always have a place and a purpose, to show the child how to have fun.

This was personal to me because I used to love playing in the rain with my rain boots just like the little girl in lthe story.
