Lies My Stepmom Told Me
The lifeless green paint was peeling off the walls of the small cage, that was my "room". My cellmate Nova was scratching at the paint and giggling whenever it fell onto her twin sized mattress. I silently observed her. This place was made for people like her.
"Rosalie, come play with me" Nova said motioning for me to come near her.
"Um, maybe tomorrow Nova. I don't feel very well today" I murmured before shifting on my mattress to face the bullet proof window in our cell.
"Rosalie, I said come play with me. Now!" Nova screamed as she stepped closer to me.
"Stay the hell away from me Nova. You're freaking delusional. This nuthouse was made for freaks like you." I said
Nova's black eyes softened.
"I'm not a freak" she said reaching out to stroke my face.
"Nova, I swear if you touch me I'm straight decking you. You are a freak. You have schizoaffective disorder. You belong here Nova. I don't." I screamed as I threw my plastic spoon across the room.
"Rosalie De Luca, you have a visitor. " my social worker, Scarlet said through the steel bars that closed my cell.
"Who is it Scarlet?" I said with a sigh.
"It's Alessandra. Your stepmom."
A small smirk hit the corners of my lips.
“I’m not going out there. Not to see her.” I said as I walked back to my warm mattress.
“Come on now Rose, it won’t be that bad. She says she wants to apologize.”
“Apologize.” I let out a small laugh. “Alessandra has had 7 months to apologize. She’s the reason that I’ve been locked in this nuthouse. I do not want to see her. Today or ever.” I continued.
“Rosalie, I know you think that I am deranged but just go see your mom” Nova said.
“Stepmom” I corrected her “and no, if you know what Alessandra did to me, to my family you wouldn’t want me to go talk to her.”
“Rosalie, please. Just come talk to me.” a familiar voice said from outside of my room. A voice that belonged to my stepmother and ex-lover Alessandra.
