Tsunami Fear
One night, it was darker than usual around seven o’clock at night. My family and I were playing trouble, just having a good time. It started getting super windy and the branches were falling off the trees onto the patio. Dad got up and looked out the window to look at the ocean. The tide was coming up pretty far and then…breaking news was alerting.
“Major tsunami warning. You need to evacuate the city as soon as possible”.
Mom hurried and packed every single food item and drinking item we had in our house to take with us. Dad packed the car and filled up the gas tank to full because he had no clue where we were going to go. My little brother, Ricky, and I were scared because we did not know what to think.
When we were on the road, they were blocked by policemen and firefighters and they told us we could not leave. My dad and mom fought with them for a good half hour. By the time they were done arguing, a huge wave hit the bridge that was behind the officers. Cars got hit and people jumped out of their cars, running and screaming. Once the cops saw, they told us we were on our own and that we had to protect ourselves.
A couple hours later, a sign fell down on our car, along with a wave. The sign fell right down on my parents and they had their mouths open. The water from the wave went into their body. They died instantly. It was just me and my brother. We were divested and we were too young to know how to survive alone. The tsunami went on for several hours. We got to the highest point we could find and just watched the water wash people away. My brother and I were all alone with no family members. We were so lost. We had no money or a place to live. That day, 732 residents died, and two of them were my parents. What is Ricky and I supposed to do now? We had no one and nothing. No food, no shelter, not family. Nothing. We were on our own for good for now. We had no transportation either or money. We walked for days. We died a few days later from heat strokes and starvation.
Moral of the story: Know what to do when you are in a life or death situation. Know where you are going and how to get money, food, and shelter to keep yourselves living until you get back on your feet again.
