Loch ness
when i was 7 years old my grandad and i were in his old town in scotland, it was a really sunny day and everyone was at loch ness which is in the highlands, we were walking across the rocks heading for the little ice cream truck that was parked on the sand when i asked him if i can go in the water with the other children. He turned to me and told me i was allowed as long as i stay in the shallow end and as long as i am in his sight, so i asked “why grandad, why can’t i swim a bit further out” he took a deep breath and looked at me for a minute without saying anything then he suggested we should take a seat, so my grandad and i walked until we found a nice cosy spot which was planted next to a huge grey rock, we placed our blankets down and got comfortable. My grandad reached into his pocket and pulled out a picture of a strange looking creature, i would describe it as a GIANT snake! he told me there was a creature that looks just like that that lives in the loch he said some people call her “Nessie” but others just name her “the lochness monster” he pulled out another picture and told me that this picture was very famous so it was special he said it was taken by the first man who seen the monster and said he was called Robert Kenneth Wilson but he also said Wilson didn’t want anyone knowing he taken the famous picture so they named it the “surgeon’s photograph” i looked at my grandad in a strange way before i started speaking, as i was very confused i said “why wouldn’t the man want anyone to know that the picture was taken by him?” he looked at me and said everyone wonders that, the most famous picture of nessie was never fully claimed, quickly he jumped up and said with happiness “ i’d be proud if that picture was mine” i giggled and jumped up agreeing “ so would i! “.
Nessie is a nice name i pointed out, “aye, so it is, do you know what it means?” grandad replied i just laughed c***ily thinking i knew what it meant “they just called it nessie because of loch NESS” grandad smirked and paused for second, “nope apparently not it’s supposed to mean pure”, i just ignored this with embarrassment and asked quickly “what’s so good about this monster anyway?” my grandad looked at me as if i have just said something completely stupid he replied smartly “what isn’t good about this monster?” he looked down and told me millions of people have tried to see her and only the lucky few actually have, sadly i replied “i wanted to see her but i wouldn’t be one of the lucky few” without taking another breath grandad had already replied with “what’s so good about seeing him now a days anyway? years ago people would offer thousands of pounds for other people to catch her or capture photographs of her” grandad looked up and smiled at me “ why don’t we go stand on the highest point, to see if we can see nessie” i smiled and jumped up excitedly “come on grandad, come on, quick, quicker!” he jumped up and we ran up the little green hill where nobody was, half an hour later there was still no sign of nessie so i started to give up “how about you sit here and i will go get us that ice cream we wanted earlier” my face lit up, grandad walked down the hill and i started mumbling to myself “you’re not lucky, why did you think you could be one of the lucky few” “you’re stupid, this was a waste of time” “i will just get grandad to take us back after this” as i looked up to see where grandad was i could see something in the distance, not taking much notice i ignored it thinking it was just a bird flying over or something like that, but it started to get bigger and closer and bigger and closer. its body big like a GIANT snake and a long thin head, swimming in and out the water “wow” i said in a shocked whisper, then i heard footsteps behind me and it was grandad with the ice creams “look grandad, look! “ grandad turned round and said “oh aye Taylor, that’s amazing, have you ever seen a sunset more beautiful” i turned around confused and there in the water was nothing to be seen, i sighed to myself, i wanted my grandad to see it as well but i didn’t tell him about it, i don’t think he’d believe me but that’s ok, i know i seen it for myself.
