Realizng The Truth
“What are we going to do with her?” said a man in an extremely deep voice. Another man answers, “I don’t know, she knows too much.”
12 hours earlier
BEEP, BEEP, BEEP, BEEP, Chloe hit snooze on her alarm clock and rolled out of bed. She looked at herself in the mirror and knows she has a lot of work to do before the bell rings at 7:55 at Cumberland High School. She combed her long, luscious, blonde hair and puts her makeup on to perfection. She was picking out an outfit when her mother comes in, “Let's go! Riley is here!” she says in a stern manner. “Okay chill out I still need to get dressed,” sneers Chloe. Chloe carefully picked out a flawless dress that compliments her stunning figure along with matching high heels and walked out the door where she sees Riley standing impatiently. Riley gets over her anger quickly and asks Chloe “Why do you always look so amazing? You’re already dating the star of the soccer team, why do you even need to try?” “Everyone wants to be me” she says in a stuck up way “I always need to be on my “A” game.”
The two friends started walking to school and it was gorgeous outside. It was the perfect temperature, not too hot, not too cold. The sun was as bright as a polished new penny and not one cloud in sight. On top of that, there was a comfortable, cool breeze to compliment the sun’s heat. There were leaves all over the ground in a variety of different colors: red, orange, green, yellow, brown, creating the perfect scenery.
As Chloe and Riley were turning around the corner, they saw something that flabbergasted them. Two huge, bulky, bald, scary looking men were in a fight against a weaker man, looking cowardice as ever. The two girls found the closest tree to them and hid behind it. As time went on, the fight became more and more intense and in a blink of an eye, they were fist fighting and of course, the two men won. As soon as they congratulated themselves for their victory, they picked him up as if he were a feather, carried his body a few feet, and threw him off the bridge! Riley had to cover Chloe’s mouth to stop her from screaming. When she got her under control, they slowly backed away, but then Riley stepped on a pile of raked leaves and the crunching sound of the leaves made an extremely loud noise. The two men glared at them and began walking towards them because they knew that the two innocent girls saw what had just happened. Chloe and Riley started running as fast as they could. They knew they will be killed if they were caught. Riley, the tomboy of the two, ran faster than Chloe because she has five years of experience in track. And just like that, everything changed in an instant. Chloe tripped with her heels on and face planted on the concrete sidewalk, scraping the side of her face. “Help!!” She cried out desperately. Riley looked back at her and stopped for a second, contemplating whether she should help her or not. In a rash decision, she decided to continue running and she left Chloe behind. By the time Chloe had time to stand up and start running again, because she was so shocked, the two men caught her and before she had time to scream, she was knocked unconscious by one of the man’s powerful fist.
“What are we going to do with her?” Said a man in an extremely deep voice. Another man answers “I don’t know, she knows too much.” These were the first words Chloe had heard upon waking up. She didn’t know where she was, she didn’t even know how long she was unconscious for. Was it minutes? Hours? Days? She had no idea. She knew she was in some sort of box because she felt the edges around her confined area. This is something her dad had taught her to do if she was ever kidnapped, and one of his endless lessons finally came in handy. Chloe started to panic, breathing heavier and heavier until finally she remembered the time she had received her black belt in karate not too long ago. Confident in her skills, she kicked the box open to find that it was only a cardboard box. She couldn’t help but chuckle to herself because a toddler could have broken free from the box. Chloe checked her surroundings and knew immediately she was in a house for what looked like it was run by a pack of wolves. There was dim lighting and most importantly trash everywhere. There were clothes scattered all around the floor including dirty socks, underwear, and shirts. The odor was unbelievably horrid and she found the source of it. There were half eaten sandwiches and other snacks all over the floor and she was pretty sure she saw a rat scurry across the rug. It was filthy! She heard two men talking and they had no clue that she had gotten out of the box. She instantly knew that those were the voices of her two kidnappers. They were two rooms down from her and she peered around the corner until she had a clear view of the front door. She crept like a mouse across the room and soon was at the door, the two men still totally clueless. She proceeded to turn the doorknob which creaked because the house was so old. The two men became alert and sprang to the door before Chloe had a chance to take a breath. Chloe went into Bruce Lee karate mode in the snap of a finger. For a girly girl, she fought like a top notch warrior. She kicked, punched, and scratched until she finally broke free and raced out the door. She kicked off her heels and ran as fast as she could into the black forest and kept going until she lost the two men. The only light that was given off was from the full moon, shining as bright as the sun. Too afraid to go into the open, she nestled herself in a pile of leaves and cried herself to sleep because she knew it was going to be a long night and she might as well get some rest.
As morning rolled around, Chloe woke up in what seemed like a huge puddle of tears. She wiped her eyes and glanced at her hands to find her mascara smeared all over them. More than anything she wanted to be home with her mom and her dad snuggled up in the blankets on the couch watching a movie. Thinking about the closest building near her, she froze and knew it was her school. “Oh my gosh..” She muttered to herself in disbelief. “Everyone is going to see me like this..” But she came to the conclusion that going to school was the safest option because who knew where her kidnappers were? She started her dreadful walk to her school and kept a lookout for anyone that came even remotely close to her.
Chloe got to her school steps safe and sound, walked up to the double doors that greeted her, and then she stopped. She was so afraid of what everyone would think of her that she didn’t even realize that she was in the open. Hearing a noise from the bushes, she became startled and hustled inside the building. As soon as she walked in, the bell for first period rang and everyone poured out of their classrooms, but soon stopped and stared at Chloe as if they were a deer caught in headlights. Chloe looked down to see herself barefoot, her dress ripped in countless places, she was dirty from head to toe, her hair which was once blonde was now brown and infested with leaves, her face was all bloody from when she had fallen on the concrete, and her makeup looked like a clown had given her a makeover. She heard a variety of insults throughout the mob of students. “You look like a homeless elderly women...You smell like my dumpster...You’re so ugly I can’t even look at you, you might hurt my eyes.” In the midst of the crowd, Riley had made her way to the front to see what all of the ruckus was about. She stared at Chloe in disbelief and joined in the mockery! She shouted “I can’t believe I was ever friends with you, you hideous monster!” At this point, Chloe could not hold back the tears and she cried like a never ending waterfall. A group of girls who she did not recognize walked up to her and escorted her to the bathroom. One girl picked the leaves out of her hair, another girl got a wet paper and dabbed her face to clean off all of the blood, another girl attempted to fix her makeup, another girl even took off her shoes to let Chloe wear! “Who are all of you?” Chloe asked in a sympathetic voice. “I’m Brianna.” One girl said with a smile on her face “And that’s Claire, Mia, and Sarah. We are all in your geometry class, you know, the people you call geeks almost every day.” Realizing now who they were, Chloe pleaded “I’m extremely sorry I acted like such a jerk is there any way we could start over? But if you don’t mind me asking, why are you all being so nice to me when I’ve been nothing but mean to you?” “Of course we can! And we are being nice because we all believe in second chances.” piped Mia. The three other girls nodded in agreement. “Now you need to walk out of this bathroom with your head held high with pride!” pronounced Claire. “You’re right, you finally made me open up my eyes and notice that all of these people who claim to be my friends, are all fake and my life will be much better without them.” responded Chloe.
When Chloe went to school the next day, she looked fierce, and better than she had ever looked before. Riley saw her at her locker and decided to go and talk to her. She rambled on about how sorry she was about everything that had happened the previous day but Chloe cut her off mid sentence “You and I both know that this is just an act so just save me some time and never talk to me again.” Chloe slammed her locker shut, caught up with her new friends at Sarah’s locker, and they all walked up to their homerooms together. Chloe looked genuinely happy because now she now realized that she has real friends who actually care about her unlike the possy she had before.
