Determined
The bell rang.
“Okay students have a good Thanksgiving break!” said the 6th period teacher.
“Hurry Thiago we need to get something to eat before we go to practice.” said Isaac.
“Alright let’s go then i’m so hyped for the tournament.” said Thiago walking out the classroom with Isaac.
Thiago and Isaac both walked to the taco truck that was around the corner from their high school. They were both freshmens that attended Washington High school. Thiago and Isaac finally arrived to the taco truck.
“What are you going to order Isaac?” asked Thiago.
“I’m going to get two tacos de lengua,” responded Isaac. “How about you Thiago, what are you ordering?”
“Well we are going to practice later on so I think i’m also going to get two tacos,” said Thiago.
The two boys ordered their food and when the employee gave them their boxes of tacos they said “thank you” and ate the food. After they ate the food Thiago and Isaac threw away the empty boxes.
“Isaac let me borrow your phone so I can call my mom and tell her to pick me up.’ said Thiago.
Isaac reached into his pocket and pulled out the brand new Iphone 6s. Right when Thiago grabbed his phone a man that was poorly dressed and very dirty walked up to both of the boys. The man had been sitting on one of the benches the whole time Thiago and Isaac were there.
“Hey boys I see you got the new Iphone.” said the man.
“Yeah its mine actually.” said Isaac.
“Yeah how much did you buy it for?” the man asked.
Isaac looked at Thiago in a suspicious way but Thiago had no idea because he was asking his mom to pick him up from the taco truck.
“Umm… I got it for free actually because I have a plan with Sprint.” responded Isaac.
“Oh wow but how much would it be without a plan?” he asked.
“Umm i think it would be around eight hundred dollars.” Isaac said.
At that moment Isaac saw the man reach into his pocket and the first thing Isaac though it was, was a gun. So Isaac RKO’d the man and Thiago had just finished calling his mom.
“What happened dude?” asked Thiago.
“This guy tried to jump me for my phone.” responded Isaac.
Isaac’s mom and Thiagos mom both arrived in their cars at the same time.
“Well at least we didn’t get hurt bro see you later.” said Thiago.
“For real bro see you at practice.” responded Isaac.
Thiago didn’t want to tell his mom about what happened and neither did Isaac because they knew that their parents wouldn’t let them go to the taco truck ever again. But they kept quiet about it because they liked the tacos there. Thiago finally got home and opened the front door.
“Mom I have practice today right?” he asked
“Yes at 6 so you better do all of your homework.” his mom responded.
“Ok mom no promises i’ll finish it though,” Thiago said. “Just kidding.”
Thiago did all of his homework very easily because he understood what he had to do. When he finished it was already 5:30pm. Thiago got changed in his training socks jersey and shorts for his soccer practice.
“Okay mom let’s go to my practice he said shouting from his room.”
“Shut up dude i’m trying to sleep.” said Thiago’s brother Justin.
“My bad” responded Thiago.
Thiago walked to the living room where his mom was and told her to take him to soccer practice. Thiagos mom grabbed the car keys and drove him to his practice. When Thiago went to practice his mom would sit down and talk to the other parents of Thiago’s teamates.
When Thiago got to the complex it was 5:57pm. He walked to where his team usually practices. There was already 13 boys there out of the 18 that play. Thiago play for a competitive team that is called the Socal Devils. They were a team from Los Angeles.
“Wasup guys” Thiago said.
All his teamates greeted him.
“Isaac and I almost got jumped today after school when we went to the taco truck.” said Thiago.
“Really?” the team asked.
“Yea he was trying to take my phone but I RKO’d him.” said Isaac.
“Shut up dude you swear you RKO’d him.” responded Alonso.
“I swear I RKO’d him dude even ask Thiago he was there when it happened!” exclaimed Isaac
“Thiago is it true this fool RKO’d that guy that tried to rob you guys?” asked Alonso.
“Yup Isaac saved himself and I from that guy.” responded Thiago.
As the boys were still arguing whether Isaac RKO’d the guy or not the coach had just arrived to the soccer practice. He was already setting up the first drill for the team.
“Ok boys we all warmed up and ready for practice?!” asked the coach.
“Yes coach” responded the team.
“Excellent alright so for this first drill I want you to sprint to the first cone then pivot to your right and sprint to the other cone.” said the coach, “Understood?”
“Yes” they all responded.
“Excellent who wants to go first?” he asked.
“I do coach” responded Thiago.
Thiago always wanted to go first because he wanted to set an example for his whole team to follow.
“Ok ready?” asked the coach.
“Yes coach” responded Thiago.
The coach blew the whistle and Thiago was off. He was sprinting to the first cone and right when he was about to pivot he twisted his ankle on a hole in the grass that was right next to the cone.
“Ah!” exclaimed Thiago. “My ankle I heard it pop I think the fractured it or sprained it.”
“Can you walk on it?!” asked his coach in a panicked way.
Thiago tried to get up from the floor but he couldn’t he knew he needed a doctor as quickly as possible. His teamates helped him into his car. His mom drove him to the nearest Kaiser Permanente and helped him into a wheelchair. Thiago was in tears because he thought that he wouldn’t be able to go to the tournament that was in two weeks. Him and his mom were in the waiting room. His mom asking him how he felt and if he could feel his toes. Thiago was waiting for a lady to come out the door and ask for him to go to the doctor.
“Thiago Alcantara” said a lady that walked out the door.
Thiago raised his hand and she walked over to him. The lady pushed the wheelchair through the door and his mom followed them. They finally arrived to the doctor’s room and waited there patiently until the doctor walked in.
“Yes hello you must be Thiago right?” he asked.
“Yes that’s me Thiago responded.”
“Okay so your problem is your right ankle.” said the doctor, “Right?”
“Yes I think I sprained it” said Thiago.
“Well let’s find out.” said the doctor.
The doctor put on gloves and examined Thiago’s foot and ankle and asked if he could move his toes or not.
“Okay Thiago I have good news and bad news.” said the doctor, “Which would you like to hear first?”
“The good news” said Thiago.
“Okay the good news is that you only sprained your ankle.” said the doctor. “The bad news is you have to be on crutches for at least a week.”
Right when the doctor said the word “week” that same word kept repeating itself in Thiago’s head, Thiago nearly in tears. The doctor walked out and came back in with crutches and an ankle brace.
“Here are your crutches and ankle brace Thiago.” the doctor said while putting on the ankle brace on Thiago’s ankle.
“And you are set.” said the doctor.
“Okay thanks doctor” said Thiago limping with his crutches out of the door.
Thiago and his mom walked out of the Kaiser Permanente and drove home Thiago nearly in tears.
The first thing Thiago did when he got home was lay in bed with his ankle elevated. That was all he did for the whole week. The one thing he would do for exercise in a normal day was get up from his bed and plug in his PS4 controller to the console so it would charge. Thiago would just play Black Ops 3 until he was hungry, then he would use his crutches to go to the kitchen and make chicken nuggets. After that he would go back to his room lay in his bed and continue Black Ops 3. Thiago really missed playing soccer. Eventually the week had passed and Thiago gained 5 pounds and did no longer have a six pack. His thighs and calfs were both very mushy and not rock solid as they used to be. Thiago took on his ankle brace and started walking around the house for practice.
“Wow I really miss walking it feels so much better.” said Thiago, “Mom i’m going outside for a walk!” exclaimed Thiago.
Thiago walked in a weird way because he had not walked for over a week. But he missed his team and soccer even more. Today his teamed practiced and he wanted to go. The time came for his team to practice and he arrived at the practice.
“Ayyyee Thiago are you good now?” the team asked.
“Um I don’t know yet but I really want to go to the tournament.” responded Thiago.
“Well it is in a week so maybe you can still make it.” said Isaac.
“Well there’s only one way to find out.” said the coach from out of nowhere.
The coach began the practice and Thiago realized he did not lose much of his stamina and after practice he was so sore but he knew that he would get his muscles back. The following week Thiago ran in the park every day until he felt like his old self. There was one day left and Thiago rested all his muscles and ate a good dinner. The following day he woke up early in the morning to go to the airport. His whole team was there getting ready to board the plane for Las Vegas.
“Good luck Thiago!” his parents said while hugging his and kissing him.
“Bye mom and dad.” said Thiago while hugging them.
The team boarded the plane and took off for the Las Vegas Bayern Munich Showcase. The rest is history for Thiago Alcantara.
