“Come on Owl you’ll be late!” chattered his friend, Monkey. It was almost time to meet with the experienced, old animals. All throughout the jungle, young animals swung, flew, and pounced over to the ravine just to learn survival from the best animals around. Owl glared around at the vast amount of small animals eager to gain the knowledge of all the adults in the jungle.

“..and that’s how you should catch food in the pond,” Tiger finished, “Ah! Owl, Koala, and Sloth. You are here now. I was just talking about how to catch food. Please sit and join us.”
“No way dude. I'm gonna chill with my bro Koala,” Sloth argued.
“Dudeeeee! Nice one Sloth. Smell you later, Tiger! We have better things to do to learn how to survive in the wild,” Koala added.
But Owl was ready to learn. He perched himself on a branch and listened to Tiger talk about how to catch a meal and the wonderful demonstrations.
“Thank you Tiger! I will be happy to use this information,” Owl exclaimed.
Owl glided away with a smile on his beak. He glanced over and saw Koala and Sloth. They were jumping around in the jungle vines and laughed with each other. Now Owl was depressed. He wants to go enjoy himself in the sunlight and bounce around in the leaves. But Owl knows better. He knows if he gets his work done now, he can have lots of fun later. So Owl flew off, ready to keep learning.
Now he came across Rabbit. Rabbit was just about ready to teach the young animals about running from predators. Owl once again found a sturdy tree and grabbed hold of a branch.
“Now the key to running from animals is to hide when you get far enough...” Rabbit rambled on.
Owl glanced back quickly. He saw Sloth and Koala once again goofing off. Owl sighed, wishing he was there.
But Owl remembering that he could have fun after all the work was done.
“...plus it’s important to run very very quickly away from predators.” Rabbit concluded.
Just then, a rumble could be heard from the bushes. Two intimidating yellow eyes glared out from the spaces. A black and orange striped creature pounced from the Shadows. It was Tiger!
“Hello tiny animals. I hunger once more. I’m sorry I have to eat you after such a great lesson. Let’s hope you payed attention to Rabbit. This is what your life and my stomach relies on.”
Suddenly Tiger darted out. Cawing and whimpering of animals trying to flee could be heard throughout the tree tops as each creature sped away as fast as possible. Owl flapped his wings and took off. Scared and confused he crashed into vines and shrubs. No Owl he thought, focus. Use the lessons you learned. Quickly Owl corrected his flight pattern and flew gracefully and hastily. He turned his head all the way around and saw Sloth and Koala crawling away clumsily.
“Help dude!! Help! Don’t let us get eaten!” cried Sloth.
“Yeah man! Owl help! Be a cool dude!” wailed Koala.
But it was too late. Tiger pounced on both of them. He munched on their carcasses and the growling of his stomach ceased.
“Dude...we...we should’ve gone to class maaaaan!” Sloth’s final words echoed.

The author's comments:

This fable was inspired by my education. I took all the more difficult courses all throughout school. Although this was hard, it taught me much more than many people knew. This set me up for the rest of my life. The moral of this fable is: Do the easy and comfortable, life becomes difficult. But do the uncomfortable and difficult, life becomes easy. My advice to all the people reading this, things right now may be tough, but as long as you work through it with lots of effort, everything will improve.
