Pollution Poolution
Pollution Poolution
Every year in my town, we celebrate Environment Day as if it were Christmas.
We go outside to clean our yards, clean the sides of streets, and often clean the
sides of highways. The people in my city are all very “green,” and like to recycle
everything. Although, my father is against all the eco-friendly ways of life; my
father is a very wasteful person. When everyone in my city is out celebrating by
cleaning up the environment, he’s inside watching TV and eating processed
foods.
In my town, almost every family despises my father and insists he be kicked
out of our town for not helping keep things clean. Several complaints have been
filed for him littering, not taking out his trash, and letting his lawn grow over a
foot high. He’s a very unclean, unorganized person, and no one in our town
approves of his behavior.
In May of 2013, my dad went outside to drink a beer. He watched everyone
cleaning their yards and just smiled as if they were pathetic. Our neighbors glared
at him, and he didn’t seem to mind at all. To him, the attention was nice and there
were no laws against him leaving his house a wreck. He didn’t care about what
everyone said, his habits weren’t going anywhere.
Despite all the rude looks, I went outside to clean the yard. When I stepped
outside, I saw something struggling to move over in one of our bushes. I walked
over to it, and found that it was a small bird, choking on a piece of paper my dad
had thrown out there a few days before. The bird finally coughed up the trash, and
I gave it some water for faster recovery. I felt bad, but I couldn’t do anything
about my dad’s disgusting behaviors.
The next day, my dad got cleaned up for a job interview; his hair was slicked
back and he was wearing his new suit. He was very excited because he had been
waiting for an interview with Johnston Realty for years. He kissed all of us
goodbye, and then walked out the front door to his rented BMW convertible. He
wanted to pull up to this interview looking nice, and the car was a great addition.
On his way to the interview, he pulled up to a stop light and closed his eyes to
enjoy the fresh air. He pondered about the interview, what he’d say, and how
grateful he’d be for the job. After a moment, he heard some birds chirping and got
a little uneasy. One flew over him, then another, then another, followed by several
more. He kept his eyes closed, thinking they’d all pass sooner or later. Then all of
a sudden, SPLAT! SPLAT! SPLAT! My father opened his eyes only to see that
the birds ruined the hood of his BMW car rental, as well as his new suit and
greasy hair.
On his way back home, he drove with the top of the car closed and the radio
off. He was grumpy, and of course he was frustrated. He didn’t get the job
because he never made it to the interview, and no dry cleaner would recover his
suit. He pulled up to our house, slammed the car door, and stomped up the stairs
to take a shower. He was upset beyond belief, but after pitying himself for a good
hour, he realized that what comes around goes around. The birds were only
punishing him for his deeds against one of their own.
