There she was, the homeless old woman that roamed the end of the street every night between eight and ten pm. She whore very tattered clothes, you could tell she had several layers of shirts on with an ugly green sweater and ripped brown coat to top it off. Her face was very wrinkled and when she muttered to herself in an unknown language, you could see only five teeth set in her gums that where black and green. On her bottom, she wore several pairs of sweatpants and socks that met in an odd lump a few inches above her ankle. Tonight my younger brother Jim and I set off to add some excitement in her mundane routine. I gripped the metal bat that I had as hard as I can and smacked her hard over the head with it, to my surprise nothing happened; Jim then smacked her hard in the stomach with his skateboard, but it did not work either. She stopped muttering and her head spent around, her eyes were charcoal black.
“Neque id fecit”
We turned and ran as fast as we could, she followed us of course.  Our house was about twenty minutes up the street and at about ten minutes of running she was no longer there. Our running slowed but did not stop; the thought she might just show up again scared us. We made it safely home to find our father sitting on the sofa, sitting across from him was an old woman dressed in a very plain black dress. He stood.
“Meet the new in-house maid and nanny, Helga.” He moved pass us to go upstairs “please show her to the room on the second level”
Once he was out of sight, the old woman stood before us and smiled sweetly, her teeth where a very light-pink-red color. Her eyes hastily turned into a charcoal black color and she winked at me. Her face went back to normal as Jim took her cases upstairs. I quietly quivered with terror as we slowly guided “Helga” to her room. As soon as she closed the door, we hurried to our room on the third floor and went to bed. Later that night I woke with a sunken-brick feeling in my gut and turned over to see a figure standing in the corner of our room, it was terrifying. The figure was a very dark black, but you could see where the eyes where they where and oddly darker black even though the body seemed to be the purest form of the color. I quickly pulled the cover over my head, only to peek out seconds later to find the thing gone. I pulled the cover over my head in fear of it coming back and slept curled in a ball.
That morning I woke to the comforting smell of bacon and eggs, which “Helga” had made for us. I couldn’t eat it, my stomach grumbled as I waited for the school bus I thought to myself that I could just eat at school. I ate at school everyday that week and experienced that same figure every night, that’s why I was relieved to be invited to a sleepover birthday-party on the other side of town that Saturday night. I would have been happy that Sunday, but late that night I saw the figure peering in the window and I cried.
That week I ate only at school and slept very little. Hiding under the cover no longer worked to make the figure disappear, to make it worse the thing seemed to be getting closer. Living the luxurious life made my body feel the affects sooner. I was exhausted and hungry. It was very miserable for me and it went on for weeks. In October, school let out for a week break and father decided that he would leave us at home while he went fishing two states over and that would be fine in “Helga’s” care. Jim asked if he could go to his friend’s house until that Thursday and was granted permission to go. My heart sunk, I spent four days locked in my room and tormented at night, it began to lean over my bed-even sitting at the bottom of it at one time. Once I sat up in fear and asked in a shout what the creature wanted from me with the answer:
“Vindictae.” and then later … “De optima species iustitiae.”  then…  “Mors.”
When Jim came back, I thought that it would be safe to take a shower, but it was a mistake. When I went back to our room, I was shocked by the horrific site. There was a large creature sitting on my brother’s body eating it like a lion on the animal channel. The creature had a face shaped like a humans, but up-side-down and had nose wholes at the top like two little slits. Its mouth was a bit like a pelicans with sharp little teeth and charcoal black eyes. It was generally shaped like a pterodactyl but the body had a smooth flow to it like a human with the skin pealed away. It took a large bite out of the lower half of Jim’s torso, leaned its head back and ate it like a baby bird.
It suddenly launched across the room and pinned me against the wall. It smiled sweetly and licked my face. She blew in my face and I blacked out.
“ Quoniam atrox fortuna convenit.”
I awoke to these words in both my nightmares and in reality, when I awoke I was in a cave somewhere tied to a rock-bed of some sort. I could not move, I leaned my head upwards to look around me. It didn’t take long to notice the pterodactyl creature watching in the corner. It slowly came over and lifted a branding iron from somewhere on the other side of the table. It walked around as though it was in thought-the question is what. It suddenly lifted the branding iron in a stabbing position, bringing it down in lightning speed on my right upper thigh. I screamed aloud in agony as the creature danced happily, taring the burned flesh it licked my wound.
“Saporis”
It then began stripping the skin off my legs and eating it. This went on for what seemed like several days, though my sense of time could have been distorted since I drifted in and out of consciousness from the immense pain. I finally woke up to week to move, I just laid there staring at the light of flame dancing on the ceiling-the creature was unexpectedly there in my view. It smiled sweetly once more and licked my face again.
“Habesne querensque?”
I closed my eyes as it opened its mouth…
