Jealous Brianna
My name is Brianna. I’m an 8th grade student. Every day is a happy day for me, especially at school. I get to hang out with popular students, so I’m lucky to be me.
At 7 in the morning, I waited for my best friend, Sydney. She’s not just my best friend, she’s like my sister. She’s also a cheerleader, and she’s the most popular girl at school. The reason I was her friend is because we’re neighbors, but she wouldn’t like me if that didn’t happen.
In class we get to choose where we want to sit. I sit in the front row with Sydney, because we usually help each other in class. We’re always partners.
Mrs.V came in with a new girl from Florida. Her name is Darcy. Her hair has beautiful curls with hair accessories on every side and a beautiful ensemble she was wearing. Me and Sydney really liked her. At lunch we sat with Darcy and had fun. She’s really nice, funny, and gorgeous.
Things went well till the next two weeks. Sydney started to hang out with Darcy more than me. I figured out that Darcy became a cheerleader too. So Sydney knows that she and Darcy both have something in common. After that, Darcy became as popular as Sydney. She even got better grades than me.
Thursday was a bad day for me. Not only because of Darcy. It was my pet fish’s death. I accidently left him without food for days. I didn’t want to stay home, so I went to Sydney’s house to help me with my art project and forget about the fish.
I didn’t expect what happened. Sydney was actually helping Darcy with her homework.
But it wasn’t fair, because the teacher didn’t let us work with someone else. That’s cheating! Maybe that wasn’t a good idea for me to go to my best friend’s house. Sydney started to ignore me.
It wasn’t until the next month when Sydney totally forgot about me. I went to talk to her at lunch. “ Come with me, Sydney,” I said. She was pretending I wasn’t there so she can talk to Darcy. “ Let’s go out in the hallway,” I said. “ It’s important.” She finally came and left Darcy.
“What do you want, Brianna?” ,she asked.
“ What’s with you and Darcy?” I asked. “ You’re totally ignoring me. Why?”
“ What’s wrong with Darcy?” She asked. “ She’s not doing anything wrong.”
“ I know, but you keep hanging out with her, and you just left me like I don’t exist.” I said.” We were best friends in the beginning, and now you like her more than me.”
“ But…..that’s not true,” she said.
“ You were supposed to help me with my art project, but instead, you helped your friend Darcy with her homework, so who’s more important to you? Darcy or me?” I asked with angriness.
“ Just because I’m hanging out with Darcy doesn’t mean you’re not my friend anymore,” said Sydney.
“ But you changed,” I said, “ all because of that new girl.”
“ You’re still my best friend,” she said.
“ I guess I should be hanging out with Darcy,” I said.
“ If you do, you’ll get to hang out with me again. The three of us are one team. She’s new to this school. She needs more friends to hang out with so she can get used to her new place,” said Sydney.
It was actually my fault Sydney left me. I need to stop jealousy and be more friendly to Darcy.
I went to see Darcy after school, but Sydney wasn’t with her.
“ Hey. You’re here!” said Darcy. “ My cousin Patty is turning 10, and she’s inviting me, Sydney, and you to her birthday party tonight!”
“ Thanks!” I said, “ Where’s Sydney?”
“ I’ll tell you later,” said Darcy.
I went home to make a gift for Darcy’s cousin. But before I did anything, a gift appeared on my table. It was a bigger fish tank than I used to have, and a golden fish that looked just like my old fish. Then I saw Sydney and Darcy behind my door.
“ How did you know my fish was dead?” I asked.
“ Your parents told me,” said Sydney.
“ So did you decide what to bring for Patty?” asked Darcy.
I don’t really know what Patty likes, so I said, “ Let’s decide together, the three of us are a team.”
Sydney chuckled and said, “ Great idea. Let’s do it.”
When I was at Patty’s birthday party, we were deciding who gives Patty the present. We made a consensus and Darcy handed me the present, even though she’s the one who came up with the idea of what the gift will be. I gave Patty the present and she opened it. It was a box full of makeup. She said it was the best present she had so far and thanked the three of us.
I sat thinking about what happened today. Darcy actually wanted me to go to Patty’s birthday party, and Sydney gave me a gift I wasn't expecting. I felt like my pet fish was still alive. Now Sydney is my best friend again, and Darcy is my new one.
