The Ones We Need

At home on a windless night at a dark corner of her room lived a young girl named Cristine. She was very fragile and delicate and had a voice the sound of an angel. People looked up to her and praised her for her sweet looks. She would smile, wave, and look politely at others to show her appreciation. She had no siblings or many relatives, so she was always alone when she needed someone to talk too. It was nine in the night that she stood up from her corner to get a late night snack from the kitchen. Her parents were always busy, so she never had the chance to properly speak to them. Life as she knew it was very different from ordinary girls, so she says. She’s never had the opportunity to make a true friend outside her home. As she fasts to sleep in bed she asks herself, “starting today I will be joining a co-ed school,” and falls asleep.
Cristine’s first day at a co-ed school seems to be going fine, but she has a weird feeling that she is being watched by many. School for Cristine can be as easy as pie back when she was in an all girls school. She is an A+ student so she never had to work so hard at school. Now, since being in a co-ed school there will be boys all around. This is her first time attending a school with so many boys around. In class, Cristine’s hands felt immobilized by the many eyes that were staring at her for doing absolutely nothing. Right, when she was about to have an inner breakout, she hears the sound of the bell for lunch and with such a relief she goes to the schools rooftop to have her meal.
“I’ve never seen so many people in my life,” she says. “What a wreck?”
She has always been so kind to people, but truthfully that was just an act. She’s never had the guts to make the first move at someone. The one thing she feared the most was being alone and making friends. All she’s been doing was putting a goody to shoes act, even when she was living in a five star mansion. The one thing she desired the most was making a friend. It’s because of people she struggles so much to bond with.
It’s her second day at an all mixed school, and she’s slowly getting adapted to her school life. While she was heading to class she put herself to the challenge of making a real friend. That was her new goal. It wasn’t going to be easy, but she knew she was going to do it even if it meant breaking out in tears.
“Today is a new day!,” she said to herself.
During lunch time she was going to make her first move. While groups of girls and boys were chit-chatting she went up to a group of girls and presented herself. She was feeling so nervous her body color was so pale and light that you can see through her pale skin. The whole classroom was surprised that they couldn’t help but get involved. The group girls weren't surprised at all since they had little interest in her, but Cristine didn’t acknowledge this. The main girl in the group was Kate, selfish and dishonest.
Cristine sheepishly looking at Kate with such innocence asked, “Want to hang out sometime.”
Kate took her on at her offer, but on one condition. Cristine had to clean the whole school before she can become one of the group girls. Cristine was in complete shock mode and was froze in place with disbelief of what she just heard. She couldn’t choose between making a friend or being lonely, so she accepted her proposal. Now, Kate and her gang were smiling as though they were making fun of her and left without anothers moment word.
School just ended and rumors were spreading about Cristine cleaning the school. She ignored this though. She knew nothing about making a friend, so she thought this was the way of making a true friend.
While Cristine was cleaning so fast she looked like a roadrunner running at every direction. Since she was so fragile and delicate it was very hard for her to move. She smelled like wet dog when she had finished. When she was walking out of school her weak body couldn’t handle the tiredness of such hard cleaning, so she got nauseated and fainted for a moment. Only then to find out there was a boy holding her. The boy asked why she was cleaning the school. Cristine couldn’t answer because she was embarrassed and looked like a red-faced tomato.
“To make friends!,” she said. Then she ran home without telling the boy her name.
The following day she came up to Kate and the gang to tell them that she had finished cleaning the school, but the girls were just giggling and laughing at her. They knew how pathetic she was on taking them at their offer. The gang looked back her and just gave that evil smile of theirs. Only then she realized it was a joke and was made a fool of. Everybody in class was now laughing at Cristine for her pathetic mistake she has done. Cristine was bursting in tears and ran away at the top of the school’s rooftop. When she opened the door she couldn’t believe she was such a fool only to get nothing in return. She fell to her knees crying and disappointed at herself for falling into the girls trap. When she lifted her head she was astonished to see the same boy that had helped her when she had fainted. Her eyes were filled with delight and happiness that she had thought that she smelled the morning breeze of a beautiful start.
After a horrible day in shool, she finally got to meet with the boy who has lighten up her day. The boys name was David, and he loved making others happy especially himself. David has always been friendly to others that he couldn’t help, but be with Cristine everyday on the rooftop during lunch. It was their favorite place to eat because there was nobody to disturb them. Sometimes they goof around and play cards all day, and when they couldn’t meet at school they would go to the park near the boy’s house.
Ten months later.
It was that day of the month where the fireworks were displayed for the people on Independance Day. Every year near the park there’s a festival held for family and friends to get together and enjoy the moment. They even offer great rides and arcade games. The boy was excited to go, but he planned on asking Cristine to go with him. He was very shy at first, but he easily got over it and asked her to join. She got timid by the David’s request, because this was her first time being asked by a boy, but she knew she can trust him. As for David, he was nervous she would say no, because they didn’t know each other to well until recently at school after the trick with the girls. When Cristine said yes, David was feeling gushy and mushy inside. After picking up Cristine he found it surprisingly amusing to see her five star house and beauty. He never really considered her being so wealthy when he first meet her, but he said nothing of the sort to the girl.
When they arrived to the festival he got a good look at Cristine and found her very cute than before. Now, his face was looking very red and blushed. They seemed to have had a good day since they rode almost all the rides, and played funny activities. Both Cristine and David were talking about their funny and strange childhood memories. Cristine noticed that she was having the best day of her life thanks to David. Sitting together under the trees at night and watching the fireworks was an unforgetable memory for both of them. At the end of the fireworks David and Crisitine were walking together in silent, so they would always treasure this moment. Now that the night was over David walked Cristine back to her house with such a happy smile. Both had wished today had never ended, but everything had to come to an end.
Now that school was starting everybody was talking about the festival and how great it was from last years event. The boy was excited that he had invited Cristine to the festival in the first place. As he meets Cristine at the rooftop, they stare at one anothers eyes and give a brief smile at each other. Cristine realizes know that if it weren’t for those mean girls that bullied her; she would of never have met David. She’s glad she got the opportunity to have met a friend named David.
