A Raven's Point of View
This is how I changed into and saved a human. Humans, nasty and disgusting creatures. Never really liked them myself, always polluting the air I breathe and fly in, always making noise in the most peaceful places. Not to mention that their so called "language" is just a bunch of different noises squished together. Yet, I had to deal with their ways. I currently live in a nest located inside a birdhouse. When I first found this place I thought that maybe not all humans were bad. WRONG! This was probably the most annoying human I've ever seen! Always running about inside her house blowing through pieces of metal and rubbing a stick and a log together, both make the most horrible noises! But the only other place to go live is in the dump, which is well...a dump. So that's the situation I was in.
As I tried to go to sleep that night, listening to those dreadful sounds, I wished that I could give that human a piece of my mind. That was the last the thing I thought as a raven. I slipped into an unconscious state and while in that state, I had a dream. I'm flying in the sky, wind rustling through my feathers. But, all of the sudden, there was no wind. The sky around me morphed into a bunch of mirrors. Startled I halted in front of one, but in the mirror wasn't my reflection, it is that of a male human. I was confused, and at the same time not at all. The reflection before me was somehow familiar, but there was no way I saw this human before. Almost instanty all the mirrors shattered, a few pieces cut my wings and I was rendered flightless. The ground rushing towards me quickly, was this the end?
"WHAT THE HECK ARE YOU DOING IN MY BACKYARD?!"
My eyes flutter open, am I dead? No, I remember it was a dream, nothing to fear. "I-I'll ask you one more time. W-what are you doing in my backyard?" Strange, if feel as though I'm somehow heavier. And what is that constant thumping coming from my chest? "I-I will use this shovel if I have t-to!" Plus, why is somebody threatening me? I lift my head to see no other than my least favorite person, the human that lives in the house. Wait...why can I understand her?! I get up and flap my wings for takeoff, but why am I still on the ground? Why am I outside in the first place, wasn't I in the birdhouse? I get up and look at the human girl...I'm taller than her. I run over to the bird bath to find my reflection. I saw my worst nightmare, the male human from my dream.
I try to caw out in terror but instead comes a scream. I look over to the human girl, motioning to her to get a doctor, psychiatrist, anything! But I see nothing but fear in her eyes. That's what I saw last before I was hit hard in the head by a rusty shovel.
I wake up a few hours later (hoping I don’t have tetanus) and this time I'm tied up to a chair. The girl walks in the room, with the rusty shovel, and sits down in the chair across the room. " So exactly who are you and what do you want?" Then I surprised myself and start to speak English, of all things! "Um...well you see... I'm the raven that's been living in your backyard." She replied with "Hmm, exactly how much alcohol did you drink." "I didn't drink any, I swear!" I exclaim. " Oh, really now? Then explain why you why you were sleeping naked in my backyard,” she said while hefting shovel. I winced involuntarily, remembering the impact of the digging tool. “Technically I was always naked in your backyard, speaking of which, are these your clothes?” I ask while glancing down at my new attire. She blushes and motions me to come forward. I get up and inch towards her but was interrupted by the infamous shovel, vision going black and crumpling to the floor.
I am awoken by violent jostling (I’m pretty sure I have tetanus now) and my eyes snap open to find myself in a car. I try to pick myself up but I can’t move and thats when I see HER. “WHERE THE HECK ARE YOU TAKING ME!” I shout angrily. I get my answer when I see the police station outside the car. The girl gets out of the car and starts to walk across the street. Then suddenly I get a horrible tingling sensation all over my body. You know how animals can sense danger, well I guess that animal instinct was still with me. I rip through the cable ties with superhuman strength and bolt out of the car. The girl was surprised to see me running toward her, but more surprised by the speeding drunk driver coming towards her. I push her out of the way but then everything is gone, replaced by darkness. I’m soon awoken by a familiar voice.
