Family or Fame
One morning I woke up to the sound of a sreaming baby, fighting twins and dishes hitting each other. Everyone was getting ready for school. Not me I finished school and was ready for my break. My dad had left work, and it was up to my mom.I opened my eyes and there was a boy looking over me.
My name is Cherry Cane and I am the oldest of three brothers and a baby sisters. Charlotte Cane, my mom made no mistakes on naming me; I have the reddest hair and pure green eyes. Between my siblings none of them have red hair. The two twins are the second oldest and always get in trouble. My baby sister always gets all the attention;everyone’s always coming up to her and saying how cute she is. So I always looked my best from top to bottom, that maybe someone would notice me. My favorite of my siblings was my six-year-old brother, Caleb, he was nice to everyone and he really loved me. Although he was quiet he was good at showing the twins who was boss.

The boy who was looking over me was in fact Caleb, he was grinning.

“Why do I have to go to school, I want to stay home with you.” He pleaded

“No you have to go to school but I promise to play with you when you get home.” I told him
“Cherry can you please come and help me!” my mom yelled from downstairs, “I need you to clean the table, than I would love to take you to the mall!”
“Looks like mom really needs you, and bad.” He said than left
Although Caleb was right I needed to help my mom but why I actually wanted to was because she would take me to the mall. That was the word that could make me do anything, “The Mall.” So I got dressed as quickly as I could, finding a shirt with the perfect shade of green to go with my skinny jeans. I put up my hair in a side bun, put earrings in and some laced flat shoes on. I ran down stairs to clean the table. My mom took my sister to a childcare so the house was quite and nothing was in my way. I decided to blast my music from my phone but then my mom walked so she made me turn it off.
“I see you are ready to go.” Observed my mom.
“Thanks for thinking of me, I’m really excited.” I said

“You are a growing girl and I think you can do some mall shopping on your own, too.”
We got into the car and the entire way there it was silent. When we got inside my mom asked me where I wanted to go. I told her, as many places as we can get to. So we went in we decided to start looking in the clothing departments and than shoes and maybe makeup. I was the most fun I have every had with my mom in a long time. It was great!
After we came out of the shoe store my mom wanted to find something for my dad because they were going somewhere nice, so I agreed to go alone for a bit. We departed and I headed down the big halls of the mall and sometimes I would hear a faint sound like singing. It got loader and loader until I saw who was singing. To be truthful it sounded offal. I started walking up and all of a sudden someone pulled me up to where the others had been singing.
“Please sing something for me.” Said a man with an Irish accent. He talked with a choppy voice that didn’t sound English.
So I started singing a Christian sing I have always loved, as I was singing my mom walked by and stopped to listen. After I was done know one said anything and than the man yelled as if happy.
“That was amazing, your voice was so crisp but subtle! I loved it.”
“Thank you.” I said
“We have much to discus, I want you to come sing for the world.”
I was so confused he wanted me to leave my family, but it would be a dream. So I just blurted out “Yes.” The man gave me his card and told me to call him. When we got in the car we where quiet for a bit than my mom got mad.
“Why did you say yes, you didn’t even ask your own mother, that was very selfish of you I should have never let you walk in the mall by your self.” My mom was yelling now and I looked like I was going to cry.
“I’m the selfish one, first you said I am a big girl and can do things on my own, you’re just jealous you never had the opportunity to travel the world and be famous. This is my dream now and my life!” I was screaming and crying now. I felt terrible but I thought I was pretty right.
When we got home I hurried out of the car, leaving the clothes I got on the seat, and I ran to my room and locked the door. I sat there for about twenty minutes staring at the business card the man had handed me. Finally I had the courage to call. I grabbed my cell phone and dialed the 800 number. On the first ring the man with the Irish voice answered.
“Hello?” he said
“Um, hi my name is Cherry Cane; I’m the girl who sang for you at the mall. I would like to learn more about traveling the world and performing.”
“Brilliant, I am so exited, you are beautiful. But what you will be doing is singing other peoples songs mostly in America.” He said “So when can you come to California?”
“Wait, What I need to go to California.” I don’t know if I could leave my family.
“Yeah, that’s where my studio is.” He said
“Ok I will call you later and tell you.” I said
“Sounds good but don’t take too long, oh and my name is Brian MacCarthy.”
I hung up and tried to process what had happened there was so much going through my head. Should I leave my family? Would my family ever forgive me or miss me? If I did sing for the world would people notice me? I sat there a little longer and than got out a suitcase.
I went down stairs and my mom looked at me and than she began to talk.
“I’m really sorry Cherry on what happened to day, you where right. You have to live our own dream. I can’t get in the way or tell you how to live life, but I can show you what’s right and wrong. So I hope you forgive me and I pray you make a good choice.” She looked down.
“Mom I love you and always will but I would love to go to California.” I said
My dad was standing there with a confused look on his face and all my mom told him was that are baby is going to be famous. He just smiled
They helped me pack but Caleb just sat in the corner and watched me. I came over to him but he just looked away.
“Why won’t you talk to me?” I asked
“You didn’t play with me,” he said
“I’m sorry but other things occurred and there was so little time,” I said
A baby sitter was watching the kids. So I got up and got in the car to drive to the airport. Both my parents were in the car but it was very silent. I say my mom start to cry so I put my arm around her. We than arrived at the airport where we found Mr. MacCarthy. He didn’t give me much time to say good-bye, than we where on the plane. It felt like forever but we finally arrived. I remembered some of Hollywood when I was little but it was so great to come again and not only live there. I got in a lime it had leather seated with a massage chair. It was great. It took about a minute to get to where we were going.
When I got out of the car I bunch of people greeted me and asked for my signature but Brian kept pushing me along. He showed me where I was staying and where everything was and whom I should come to if I need help. Even though I missed my family I was great being here with people I didn’t know.
After my first concert it was a relief, I was on a role. I had two albums, a million fans and a huge salary what else could I want. I was living the dream and I rarely ever talked to my family.
One day in the late afternoon just before a concert someone told me I had a visitor.
“You can let them in.” I told them.
A woman walked in I didn’t really recognize till I saw some shoes that looked familiar; they were the shoes my mom had bought at the mall with me.
“Hi Charlotte.” It was weird that I called my mom by her real name.
“Hello sweetie.” She said faintly
“Why are you here?” I asked
“Well, I missed and wanted to tell you we need you to come home. It’s getting hard to watch all the kids.” She said
“Wait, you want me to come home after I just became famous!”
“Well no, I mean yes because your bro…”
“No, you said I could live my own life and you would help me but now you want to ruin it well I’m not going home with you. So just leave.” I was getting angry now.
“But.”
“No just go.” I told someone to escort her just in case she stayed till after the performance.
I had a hard time singing the words they didn’t come out right. All the words came together and it sounded choppy. After it was over Brian was very mad at me and canceled the next concert. Until I told him I was going through a tough time and I would be ready for the next one.
A few more weeks went by and I meat so many famous music artist I didn’t remember the night when my mom came. I was about a week til my big concert where I would be singing with tons of artist and maybe I would win an award (you didn’t want to miss this.) but my mom came running into the studio not caring what anyone said. She fell at my feet and cried.
“Please come you need to your brother Caleb has cancer he could die.”
I couldn’t believe this he was the best brother, and I was having a great time when he was suffering. I looked at my mother, than I walked away. I ran to my room in the studio and cried wondering what to do. There was no way I could go to the big concert when I knew my brother could die. I stayed in the room for hours.
My mom went back home and stayed at the hospital for the next few days. There was so much going on so she went to a coffee shop and came back.
On a Wednesdays morning they where talking with a doctor when they saw me standing in the door of the hospital, they just ignored the doctor and gave me a great big huge.
“Hi mom and Dad.” I said quietly
“Oh, we are so happy to see you.” My dad said, “You should come and see Caleb.”
We walked in and the minute I did Caleb screamed with excitement.

“Cherry, Cherry, Cherry, you’re here!”

“Hi Caleb I’ve missed you.”

“Can you stay here tonight?”

I decided to stay at the hospital tonight, it was funny because he told everyone that I was famous and I was his sister. I also paid for all the medical fees. Caleb was doing better so decided to give him a surprise. I planed it all out.

I took him too the studio by our house, all the lights were off and I sat him in one of the seats. The lights turned on and there were all the famous artist I had meat in California. They all sang for him and he was so exited. I was so glad I could make him so happy and afterward I played with him. Brian MacCarthy was sad I was leaving but I told him I would sing anytime he needed someone to preform. Everything went back to normal but I than had a closer relationship with my family. I, Cherry Cane could never have had a better life than this. This was my dream, and I love it.
