How to live as a NERD
My name is Bob. I am a 16-year-old boy who likes game and music, reading comics. Just a fine normal boy like those in your neighborhood. Except one thing, I am called a “NERD”. I’m so sad about that but there is no wonder that I am called a nerd. I am UGLY, SMELLY, SMALL and FAT. Also I am poor at speaking. My classmates think that I’m a boring person, so no one talks with me. I even don’t have a confidence to a girl, so I freeze when I stand in front of a girl. I’m a person like this. However, I have a crush on somebody in my class. Her name is Lucy. She has a beautiful blonde hair with a pretty face. She is friendly and kind to everyone, even to me. I think I fell in love with her with this point. She was like an angel. Anyway, next week is her birthday. And the most important thing is that I’m invited to her party!! Thank god. I was really excited when I received the invitation message on Friday. I couldn’t sleep that night. Just the thought of it made my heart flutter. I spent my whole weekend thinking some jokes and planning the present for her and a romantic love letter that will indicate my burning love. This party will be a great opportunity for me to get rid of my “Nerd” title.
Now, I’ve got a problem. Lucy’s birthday party is tomorrow and my father says that I should visit my grandmother. In fact, I didn’t visit my grandmother for half a year. My grandmother must miss me. But tomorrow is Lucy’s birthday!!! This doesn’t mean that I hate my grandmother. I really love her, but tomorrow is Lucy’s birthday, which is only ONCE a year. I mean I can visit my grandmother anytime I want, but not Lucy’s birthday. I even finished memorizing my jokes, wrapping Lucy’s present and writing my romantic love letter. I tried to convince my father using all the polite words that I know.
“Omniscient and omnipotent father, with my honor, I am sincerely hoping to go to Lucy’s birthday party. I promise you that I will visit my grandmother every week if you let me go to her birthday party.”
And my father said,
“My lovely son, I also want to let you go to your friend’s birthday party, but you are UGLY, SMELLY, SMALL and FAT. Didn’t you think about what everyone in the party will think about you when they see you there? You have to have a convincing rationale to explain why you should go.”
I said again,
“Father, with my respect, I spent my whole last weekend writing her a letter and thinking of her present. I also thought about some jokes that will make me popular. I don’t want to be a nerd anymore. Please help your son to become a COMPLETE normal boy.”
When I said “I don’t want to be a nerd anymore”, I think I saw a MASSIVE pity in his eyes.
“Alright. Dad didn’t know that you had such a strong desire for that party. Since it has come to this, I will help you as my best. I’ll dress you up as a gentleman. Trust me. When I was your age, I was a FAMOUS Casanova.”
Okay, it’s finally today. Since the last chat with my dad, I became a real guy. I inherited my dad’s “Pick up” skills, which will make me attractive to girls. I will show everyone what I’ve got. My jokes, my sense of fashion and how romantic I am. I’m ready. As my father recommended, I borrowed my father’s nice old tuxedo that he wore on his high school graduation and my mother’s perfume which my father gave her before they have got married. I carried my present and the letter and checked my appearance again. I looked perfect! I felt no envy to Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Cruise. I felt full of confident. Now, It’s finally the time to go to Lucy’s house. I walked down the street as my family saw me off.
How unlucky I am. I forgot the Invitation message that had the address of Lucy’s House! The more unfortunate thing is that I have no friends, which means I can’t call anybody for help!! I tried to think how I could get out of this situation. This kind of party will never come again. Especially to a NERD like me. At that moment, I saw a guy, actually my classmate. I glanced at him. He had a small present and was wearing casual clothes, which were not as cool as than mine. Feeling triumphant, I started to follow him.
After about 10 minutes later, I saw a HUGE mansion, which is compared with nearby houses. The antique mansion had beautiful flowers in the garden, small treehouse and a swing hanged on a tree. I could recognize that the mansion was Lucy’s house by looking at the swimming pool. There were my classmates swimming. Anyway, that was not my business cause I don’t know how to swim. Besides, I can’t swim with my underpants. So I just decided to get inside the house.
The first thing I felt was nausea. There were so many people. I am definitely not used to this kind of situation. The party was very loud and annoying. Maybe that’s because I am not friendly with anyone. Also, everyone was wearing casual clothes. The only one wearing formal clothes was me! This was not what I wanted. I wanted small groups of people, a calm and peaceful party. However, since I came here, I have to complete my duty. I prepared some jokes, a present and a romantic love letter. I tried to find Lucy in such a crowd. I found her talking with the guy who I followed. I cut on their conversation and abruptly started talking.
“Hi Lucy! Happy birthday!”
Lucy looked a bit displeased, but said
“Hi Bob. Thanks for coming.”
“No problem Lucy, by the way, I got some jokes. Wanna listen?”
“Okay Bob, go on.”
“Knock Knock.
Who’s there?
Abby.
Abby who?
Abby birthday!! HaHaHa”
Suddenly Lucy frowned . Speaking with no soul. “Ha Ha. What a fun joke Bob.”
I felt pleased when she said I did a fun joke. After that, I tried to give her my present with my letter.
“Here Lucy, this is for you”
“Thanks Bob”
Just with those words, Lucy turned her head back and started to talk with the guy again. After I gave her my present I tried several times to talk with her. But she looked more fun with the guy I followed. I couldn’t understand. I couldn’t find anything less I have than that guy. I’m wearing more cool clothes, gave her a bigger present. I also have a better humor sense than him! I will not give up until Lucy shows me some interest.
After looking around Lucy’s house, I approached to Lucy again. Now she was talking with girls. Okay, this is a chance to tell my mind to Lucy. I will make her friends all fall in love with me by showing my manhood. I reminded what my dad told me.
“Bob, always remember. Girls like WILD and TOUGH guys. Make sure that girls are below you. Man is the best. Man can get the girl by being WILD like lions.”
Keeping in mind what my father said, I slowly walked to them. After reaching right behind Lucy, I started to be nervous. But there is an old Chinese saying that only the brave deserve the beautiful woman. Thinking about that, I suddenly yanked Lucy’s hair and pulled it in front of my face.
Lucy looked perplexed and surprised, angry. In a moment, everyone’s eyes in Lucy’s house pointed at me with a silence.
“What the HELL are you doing Bob!! Take your hands off me, you brute!”
I never saw Lucy being angry like this. And that made me arouse a strange feeling. Now, it’s the time to show my manliness.
“Lucy, I…I…I….”
“What? Just let me go right now!!!!”
I found that it’s quite hard than I imagined. But If I give up here, I will be a NERD forever!!
“Lucy, I…I LOVE YOU!!! PLEASE MARRY ME!!!”
“What the...”
Lucy saw that she had nothing to say. She didn’t look angry anymore. Everyone that was looking what me and Lucy doing seem same.
‘Did it work…? My father was right!! Thanks Dad!’
I waited for Lucy’s response with a bouncing heart. Suddenly, Lucy cried out loud. She ran away out of the house.
‘Uh-Oh’
Now I felt something is going wrong.
“Hey, Bob”
Somebody called me. I looked back. There were Lucy’s friends.
“Get lost of Lucy’s house. Right now.”
Okay. I’m done with this stupid party. Next time I’ll just stay home and play games.
