Amelia, a little girl no older than four, has a goal of reaching the cookies in the cookie jar. She is barely over two feet and on the ground she could smell the freshly baked cookies, in the cookie jar, on the highest shelf. She is determined to get at least one cookie.
It was nearly impossible for her to reach the cookie jar but she was determined to reach her goal. She had many obstacles in front of her. The first one she had to face was climbing on to the counter.
She pulled out all of the drawers and made a stepladder to get to the top of the counter. She climbed one drawer at a time careful not to disturb the sleeping pots and pans, for she was afraid she would wake them and they would think she was a threat. Carefully she made it to the top of the counter.
She walked over to the giant sink with all the dirty dishes. There was no way around it. She had to find a way to get across the gigantic sink without interfering the dishes while they washed themselves.
Many dishes and silverware passed by but they were not willing to help her cross. She waited and kept on asking for help, she was determined to get to her cookie. Finally a freshly washed dish came and glided her across the sink.
Once she was across the sink she faced a new dilemma. Napkins. The napkins were nicely wrapped and set in the corner. If the napkins saw her they would try to clean her, for it was their job. She crept passed them but was seen by a washcloth on the lookout.
She ran as fast as she could before they caught her. While running she was faced by an army of forks and knives. She pleaded for their help so she could get to the cookie and not be attacked by napkins. They accepted and defended her from the rampaging napkins.
Out of nowhere another dilemma appeared. She faced a trail of hungry ants. The ants were small but there were thousands. The ants carried a crumb to bring home to their families.
When they saw her they screeched in panic. They were afraid that she would step on them. She tried stepping over them but screeched even more in horror.
She tried again but the screeched louder. Curious eyes started to watch as Amelia tried to get over the ants. They watched in fascination as she tried to solve her problem.
Amelia offered an agreement. She told them to kindly move out of her way and in return she would give them some of her cookie crumbs. They refused because they were afraid that if they turned to move out of the way she would step on them.
Out of all her difficulties and dilemmas, the ants were the hardest, for they did not want to move and every time she tried to step over them they would screech in horror. She did not know what to do. She was so close to her goal, she thought about giving up, turning around and forgetting about the cookie.
Just as she was about to give up a waft of the cookies came through the air and she could almost taste her goal. She looked around and jumped and grabbed the cupboard and she pulled herself up until she was faced with the cookie jar.
The ants below her cried in terror but she ignored them. She had finally reached her goal. She took a cookie out of the cookie jar and took a big bite.
