The city in the Sky
He looked at the sky and was amazed of what he saw; the sky was filled with all the colors and clouds that move past like ships, then it appeared. A mountain with no base made of smooth white marble. It grew steeper and steeper, until the top stood a great city untouched by man or time. The city wasn’t built by man; it has stood as long as the man remembers. Its walls were painted white and covered with designs man could never achieve. The lone mountain was surrounded by a crest of mountains that were covered with woods so thick; a man’s axe couldn’t chip the bark. The man was filled with warmth, and then the sky turned gray. Lighting flashed with anger and hatred. Climbing up to the man were three men in black. Their eyes filled with hatred, skin so pale it looked metallic. They beat the man with great power. The man started to run into the woods; the men didn’t chase him, but their stare were like spears to the man. He ran until he could no more, fell to his knees and began to cry. From the woods came a voice; a voice so sweet he couldn’t resist to follow it. The voice leads him to a wall and on this wall laid a lion’s head. This brought him great fear, but the voice tells the man to remove the head. He does what he is told and behind the head there was a door. He opens the door to find another door, and then another until he happened opened seven. At the last door was a sword. A sword as beautiful as the city itself; the man felt empowered with strength and courage. A great shot of lighting split the sky and then the voice screamed in agony. The man ran to the voice with great force the world around him starts to slow. He finds himself with the men; they were holding a girl and beating her. The third man was dead with an arrow through his heart. Both men saw the man, one of the men charged the man. Lighting flashed as he swung the great sword. In a flash the man was gone. The last man was stood behind the women, suffocating her. He was more animal than man anymore. No one spoke, but the man knew he had no choice. He threw down his sword, the bestial man releases the girl, and slowly walks to the man, and he grabs a jagged rock on his way toward him. He stands over the man laughing; beating him on the head. He was beaten until the rocked crumbled. The sinister man stood their staring at the great city as it walls cracked and blacken. He turned to look at the girl, and as he did the wind snap with great speed. He looked at his chest to find an arrow straight through his heart. He stumbled, and fell down the mountain into the abyss of the mountains’ valley. the girl ran to the man and held him until morning came. The sun filled the sky, colorful skies filled the sky and the city looked glorious than it has ever looked before. This was the man’s last time he would ever see the city.
Epilogue:
This was story was a dream I had. What made it so special it was the first dream that I could still remember after I woke up. I never understood the purpose of the city. The only thing I understand is that the man didn’t die for any reason. At a time of fear he found help, and with the help he found courage. He stood up to his fears even though they eventually engulfed him. He died knowing he did the right thing, and I think that’s why in the end the city looked glorious. Maybe the city stood as to show the man’s emotions. Maybe the city was just city, or maybe, just maybe it stands for something that can’t be described…only felt.
