The Storm
The crew of the Blue Scarab shuddered with the ship as she held fast against the onslaught, but the captain urged them onwards with harsh words and harsher beatings. “Stir yer stumps!” he bellowed, “'afore I toss yer o'erboard meself!” The crew apprehensively obeyed, cautiously guiding their weary ship through the icy torrent. The captain did not relent, however, much to their dismay. He was hellbent on getting his cargo to his destination, the crew be damned! The ship groaned against the waves as they continued to assault her. The crew began to mutter to each other, cursing their poor fortune and the unbreakable will of their insane captain. Furious at the ship's lack of progress, the captain set himself upon the crew again, berating them with a length of ship's rope. The ship again began her dirge as another wave began to belabor her sides, and wash over her deck. The captain, in his blind rage, was oblivious to all, and as he poised to strike again, he was swept away by a torrent of water, down into the briny deep. The Blue Scarab then changed course, away from the icy storm, away from the tumultuous waves, away from the cries of her drowning captain, and not a head turned back nor a sigh of grief passes their lips as the Blue Scarab sailed northward.
