The Strange Attacks of the "Spirit"
His name is Shaun. He is fifteen years old. He has pale blond hair that has brown roots at the bottom of his head and under most of the pale blond it is dirty blond. He has blue eyes that are the color of the ocean when it is experiencing a storm. His eyes are almost black but there is that little hint of blue in them. He is 5’ 11” and weight about 150 pounds. He tries not to eat a lot of food but he normally does. He was born and raised in Ireland. After his sister died, he and his mum moved to Doncaster in London where he got his job at the Pound Bakery. His everyday outfit is a t-shirt with a hoodie jacket and denim jeans.
He lives on 40 acres of land. His
land is covered in trees. 95% of his land is trees. Both oak and pine trees. They are good hiding places when he gets upset or frustrated. He has three golf carts and four ATV four wheelers. When he has some friends over, they are always riding around his land on the ATVs and golf carts. They also have paint ball and airsoft wars. When they have paint ball or airsoft wars, Shaun always climbs up high in the trees and always wins the wars because he can jump from tree to tree to get away from attackers or to get his victims.
He has been through so much. He lost his sister when he was eleven. He got in a car crash with her and his sister died on impact. He was bruised up pretty bad and couldn’t move for a few weeks but he made it out of the car crash. He ended up with one huge cut down his right leg that needed 40 stitches to repair it. The scar is a straight line going down the middle of his thigh to halfway down his calf. His dad is in prison because he abused him and his mum. As a child he was almost beaten to death because he didn’t eat all of his supper. His mum tried to get her husband off of her son but he smacked her and knocked her out when he did so. Luckily their windows were open so their neighbors had heard everything that happened and they called the cops. The cops showed up right when his mum was slapped by his dad. If the cops hadn’t showed up, he’d be dead. Since that day, his dad has been out of all their lives. Shaun was 8 when he was almost killed.
When Shaun was about 9, he went to France with his school. Ever since he got back from France, he was very fascinated in their culture. He taught himself how to speak French and taught himself the main cultures of France like the French Independence Day called Bastille Day. It is celebrated on July 14th every year. His mum doesn’t celebrate the French holidays because she doesn’t understand the purpose of the holidays. However, she doesn’t ban Shaun from celebrating them. Shaun is fluent in French and English. He is teaching himself how to speak Spanish and Italian too.
Shaun is like all of his friends but he has a past history that none of them have. All of his friends are from Doncaster and have never left here. All of his friends were raised here in Doncaster. Shaun moved to Doncaster after his dad was put into jail and his sister had died. When shaun was little, he had a “spirit” that was with him all the time. This “spirit” was his only friend and was their when he needed someone to talk too. No one ever would believe Shaun if he told they his best friend was a “spirit” so he never told anyone.
Shaun has a lot of his friends over right now. They are all having a paint ball war and it is down to Shaun, Lyon, and Jones. He was sitting in his tree mapping out a plan to get the two out when his phone started ringing. He didn’t know who could be calling him because only his really good friends have his number. So he answered the phone and told the person to wait one second so that he could move out of ear shot of anyone. The person agreed and went on hold. Shaun had just started moving when paint balls started to shoot at him.
These paintballs were coming down on him though. How was that even possible? Shaun looked up just in time to see a bombing of paintballs coming straight down on him. He managed to jump out of the way and pull out his walkie-talkie before another set of bombing paintballs happened. He told all of his friends to shut the game down and run up to the house. Luckily, they were all on the ground far enough away to get back to the house. Shaun had to figure out how to get out of the high trees and onto the ground and fast. The paintballs were coming down faster and faster like jaguars chasing their prey. The paintballs were the jaguars and Shaun was the prey.
Shaun did a quick over look of his land before he found the perfect opening to get to the ground. The opening was just big enough for him to fit into and he jumped down. When he got into the opening, he was more covered from the attack. The attackers were still trying to hit him. He had no idea why they had chosen paintballs. Maybe they wanted him injured but not dead. Or maybe they wanted to kill him with a paintball attack so that he was a gorgeous peace of art!
Shaun eventually kept finding little openings and got to the ground. Once he got to the ground, he found his ATV from when he and his friends traveled to their battle field. Shaun jumped on the ATV and drove away. He got back to his house five minutes after the attack happened. He still had no idea what the attack was about. He told his friends everything that had happened to him. His mum was at work so he couldn’t explain to her yet. Shaun and his friends could hear the paintballs hitting the roof outside. It made it hard to talk because it was so loud.
After about an hour of being attacked, the paintball sounds let up. The attack was a hail storm but with more color. As the attack let up, they could tell that everything was destroyed by the paintballs. The windows were cracked and covered in paint. They were multicolored and Shaun and his friends could just imagine how bad it was outside. When it was clear to go outside, they were amazed by what the attack had done.
The entire yard was covered in colored paint. There was about a foot of paint all around the house. It was like the house was flooded by paint. Anyone who has experienced a flood would understand how Shaun and his friends feel right now. They couldn’t get off the porch and no one could get back into the house.
“So what do we do now?” asked Lyon.
“I have no idea. I feel like I should probably call my mum and you guys should probably call your guys parents. You’ll tell your parents that you guys want to stay over and it will probably be ok. If they say no, tell them that you need help on homework and I can help you. Don’t tell them that other guys will be here too. Killian, I know that you need your meds, is there any way that you have backups with you in your backpack or I have anything in the cabinets that you need?” said Shaun, thinking out loud partially and giving commands.
“I have meds in my backpack but not a lot. I have been needing them more lately. I have enough for about three days before I run out.”
“Ok, then we should be ok for a little while. Spread out guys. We need to cover our surroundings too. Lyon, go to the backyard porch and check it out. Jones, go to the attic. In the attic you know where the roof hatch is. Try to open it. If you get it open, look around up there and see what you see. Killian, you go and check out all the windows and look for major cracks that might break. If there are any cracks, duck-tape them. I’ll stay here and call my mum and tell her not to come home.”
When Shaun reached for his phone, he realized he still had the caller on hold. He answered it and said, “Hi, sorry I forgot you were on hold, who is calling?”
“I am your “spirit” friend. Only now, I am here to make you suffer your worst fears and to expose you forever.” Shaun almost dropped the phone.
“H-h-how did you find me? I killed you…at least I thought I did. What are you here for?”
“I already told you! I’m here to make you suffer. You killed me, only it didn’t work out to well. I am here to expose who you are!”
Shaun didn’t know what to do. He hung up the phone and looked up at the sky. He saw a small hovercraft up above him. Then he saw him. His spirit, floating out of the hovercraft, to the ground to get to Shaun. Shaun just waited. He was going to try to get his spirit to leave him alone. Shaun didn’t want people to know who he was.
“So, what do you want from me?” Shaun asked once his spirit was about a foot away from him.
“I want to ruin you. I thought I made that clear.”
“But why? What did I do to make you hate me so much? I killed you yes, but that was because I didn’t need you anymore. What else did I do?”
“You don’t need me. That’s what you did. I thought that you would need me forever because of your background. Now that you don’t, I think everyone should know your background. Well, I have to leave now. Expect strange things. Because you know what my plans are now. I hope to never see you happy again.”
Then, the spirit was off. Shaun went back into the house, not showing any emotion over what had just happened. Shaun doesn’t want to be exposed because then he would need to leave again.
“So, what do we do now? How are we going to get all the paint cleaned up so that we can get outta here?” asked Lyon.
“I don’t know. How about…we get a magic carpet and then fly out! I don’t have all the answers you know,” said Jones.
“Guys! We need to just chill out then we will think of something. I have snow mobiles in the garage. We can tie a rope to like a shovel or something to them then clean up the paint. Anyone who disagrees, go sit on the couch and think,” said Shaun.
No one left the room, so they went and got the snow mobiles. They built a make shift plow and started shoveling paint into the ditches on the sides of the house. Amazingly, they weren’t filled with paint. In about an hour, they had all the paint cleaned up and gone.
When they were on their way back to the house, they heard many little, but powerful, footsteps. They realized that those footsteps were not human footsteps though. They stopped the snow mobiles and looked in the direction where the noise was coming from. They saw them instantly. There were about four hundred pigs moving straight toward them. Instantly, Shaun and the boys started the snow mobiles and flew to the house. They got the rifles out of Shaun’s and his mum’s closets and got all the ammo they could carry. Shaun knew that the pigs were from his spirit, but he showed no mercy to the spirit. He would not back down.
Shaun and Lyon went onto the porch to shoot the pigs in the front line. Killian and Jones went up to the roof to shoot the pigs that Shaun and Lyon missed and the pigs further back. Right away they started shooting the pigs. The pigs went down faster than they had thought they would. They shot at the pigs for two hours. When all the pigs were killed, they went to look at the pigs. They discovered that these were no ordinary pigs, but pigs that were grown to kill. The pigs could not be eaten or even touched. The pigs skin were blue and purple, not pink, and the skin had been infected with poison so that when you were touched, you would die. They had large, vampire-like, fangs that were as sharp as razors. Any touch or bite from these pigs would have killed any of the boys within seconds.
“What the heck! Why is this happening?!” Lyon, the one who also thinks things are cool until it comes to death, asked.
“I don’t know! Why you asking me?!” Jones asked
“I think you guys should go home. I need to have some time by myself. I’m sorry,” Shaun said, not looking at his friends, who all looked at him like he was crazy.
“What?”
“You guys need to go home. I have to think and I just need to be alone. I’m sorry.”
“Come on guys,” Jones said, “Let’s just go.”
Then they all left. They didn’t ask why Shaun wanted them to leave so bad, but they didn’t care. They were scared and creeped out. They made sure not to touch the pigs on their way out and they walked home.
Shaun redialed the number that called him earlier, his spirit’s number. He hoped that he could get the record straight about why he was being chased.
“Yes, what do you want Shaun?”
“Why are you trying to kill me off? I don’t understand what I ever did to you.”
“You killed me off!”
“In my mind, I didn’t actually kill you!”
“I don’t care! You killed me; I’m going to kill you. No matter what it takes. “
Shaun hung up. He didn’t know what to do or what else was going to happen. He couldn’t think straight and ended up passing out because of what has been happening.
Shaun woke up to find himself in the middle of the road. By the sky, he could tell it was about five o’clock in the morning. He didn’t know how he ended up in the middle of the road, but could hear a low rumble in the distance, coming fast at him. He tried to get up, but couldn’t. His wrist hurt badly and he couldn’t move his legs. He looked around and saw that his legs were in weird shapes and his wrist was swollen and purple. Shaun started to pull himself to the side of the road, using his elbows. The car was coming toward him faster and faster. The second Shaun hit the side of the road, the car skidded by him.
Shaun was almost killed by the car. He realized how far he was from his house and pulled out his cell phone. Why the person that moved him didn’t take his phone, he would never know. But he called the hospital that was about three miles away and told them where he was. They said they were coming. He then called his mum.
His mum answered the phone in two rings. Shaun told her everything that had happened. She listened and started talking. Halfway through her talking, Shaun heard the door burst open. His mum dropped the phone and he heard a scream. He was scared because he didn’t know what had happened. Then someone started talking into the phone. He knew instantly that it was his spirit.
“I killed your mum. It’s your turn now!”
Shaun lay there, waiting for the ambulance to come and save him. Shaun soon drifted off and the last thing he heard was the roaring of the ambulance sirens.
Shaun woke up to find himself in a hospital with a cast on one leg and a splint on the other. He had a bandage on his wrist and had a bandage up his arm from a scrap he got when sliding across the road.
It smelled like bleach and Clorox in the hospital. Everything in his room was white, except for his blanket and sheet which were teal blue and pea green. He was sharing the room with a girl who looked to be about 17. She had a bandage around her head, a splint on her arm and a cast around her right leg. She has short blond hair and a pale face. She had a sprinkle of freckles across her nose and pale blue eyes. She was looking at Shaun in pity. Shaun waved at her.
“Hey,” she said in a hoarse voice that was barely audible, “I’m Jo. What’s your name?”
“I’m Shaun,” he said in a voice he didn’t recognize. His was also hoarse but it was also really loud. He also croaked when he said Shaun.
“Nice to meet you Shaun. What happened to you?”
“To be honest, I have no idea. It’s a lot to explain and you wouldn’t understand.”
“You can tell me. Just because I may not understand doesn’t mean I won’t listen to you.”
“Ok,” Shaun began. He told her everything that has happened to him. He told her about the paint attack, the pig attack, and how his mum was murdered by his spirit who was coming back to haunt him and to kill him because he killed him off when he didn’t need him anymore.
“Wow. That is a lot to take in. Hey listen, I’m sorry about your mum. I lost my dad to a murder too. Just not one like your situation. I would love to help you if you need it. I can fight and you never know what’s going to come at you next. I don’t have a home anymore. Mum kicked me out after my dad died. If you want, I can help you and then I can stay with you so that I can make sure nothing else will happen to you.”
He thought for a few seconds and realized that he needed help. His friends thought he was a creep now because of what had happened. What else did he have to loose.
“Yeah, I’d love it if you could help me.”
And with that, they were a team.
A few days later, they were released from the hospital. One of the workers helped Shaun and Jo back to Shaun’s house. When they got there, Shaun showed Jo her new room. He let her have his mum’s old clothes that fit her because she didn’t have any, and Shaun wasn’t going to use them. Jo got her cast off. Apparently, she had been living at the hospital for almost three months. The workers took Jo in because they knew she was hurt and didn’t want her to die because of it.
Shaun took Jo around the lot that he owned. She instantly fell in love with it. She climbed the trees and started jumping from one tree to the next. Something Shaun loved to do. As they started heading back to the house, they heard the rumble of a car pulling up. Shaun didn’t know what the car was doing. Maybe it was his granddad and grandma. When they got to the car, he realized that he was about to be in a major situation. Stepping out of the car was his father. The one who beat him as a child. The one who almost killed him. The one who was supposed to be in prison for life but managed to get out of it.
“Who is that Shaun?”
“It’s my father. I’ll tell you the background later.”
“So! What have we here, my little Shaun and his sweet little…girlfriend *kiss* *kiss* Ha! Like you could ever get a girlfriend!” said his father.
“What are you doing here? Thought you were in prison. What, did you tell them you would be good and not beat on children anymore, or did they let you go because you were too hard to handle? Tell me! Why are you here?!” Shaun asked, his voice still hoarse.
“No, actually. I’m here because you killed my daughter. Now I’m going to kill you.”
“Let me guess. My spirit got together with you because he knew he couldn’t defeat me on his own.”
“He did get together with me, but not because he can’t defeat you, but because he knows I’m powerful and know how to beat you. I almost killed you once. I can do it again, but finish the job this time.”
“Whoa, back off bro! No one messes with Shaun unless I am a part of this. Oh, and BTW, he isn’t my boyfriend.” Jo said so powerful that I got scared.
“You couldn’t beat me, you’re a girl!”
That’s what started the fight. I tried to help Jo but she pushed me off. When I went back in, she pushed me to the ground and I stayed down. I didn’t want to get pushed again. I just watched her beat my dad with all she had. And she was winning. My father kept backing down when he got hit. And soon, he was on the ground. He tried crawling to me to choke me out, but Jo just kept hitting him. Soon she hit him so hard in the temples that he black out. He still had a heart beat though. And there was nothing else we could do. Jo went, got the rifle out of my closet, handed me the gun and said, “Shoot him Shaun, he’s a bad man and doesn’t deserve to earn another chance to beat you. Shoot him!”
Shaun loaded the rifle, aimed it, and shot. In seconds, his father had died; leaving just Shaun and Jo. He felt bad about shooting his father, but knew that if he didn’t he would lose in the end. Suddenly, his phone rang. It was his spirit.
“What do you want? If you really want to kill me, just do it! I’m done!”
“You have defeated me. I was your father and now I am defeated. That is how you killed me off. Me going to prison. I have lost and you have won. Good bye Shaun.
Shaun hung up and felt a huge sigh of relief. For once in his life, he never had to worry about his past getting out again. And if it did, he would say that the past is old news and he only lives in the present.
