Sweet tooth
Sweet Tooth
Rocky’s eyelids slowly peeked open but what she saw brought her to tears, three large chomps had been taken out of her parent’s meringue cake with vanilla frosting and her heart broke in two. She let out a high pitched, ear-piercing scream and everyone on board the train came rushing in.
Yesterday the sun was shining and everything seemed perfect, well except for her parents. They could hardly believe that they trusted her to get the cake to the fair. She pulled the little, red, squeaky wagon containing the monstrous beauty, it wobbled back and forth. Beads of sweat stretched across her father's forehead.
“ Umm, I will be right back!” She exclaimed nervously.
Soon she returned with her friends sweet Lily and beautiful Savannah at her side and they all helped carry the cake, but it still wobbled vigorously. She left again and came back with Allix and Rebecca more of her friends carrying a mini trampoline, they all traveled carefully down the crowded city streets. Finally, they all reached the train, she kissed her parents goodbye and sat down for a rest. Just then...
“ I have arrived!” said the tall French figure standing in the doorway. The girls didn’t really pay any attention to the man and began to talk about their cake.
“That cake looks delicious!” Cried Lily
“Oh yes, what is it made of?” Inquired Savannah.
Rocky stood up on a chair and proclaimed proudly, “ It is the most beautiful cake in the history of the world! With its vanilla frosting, succulent cream center, and many colorful fruit decorations. They all go perfectly with the delicious sweet and tanginess of the marange, we are sure to win!” she declared. A laugh came from the background; it was the French chef Ego.
“You are all terribly mistaken, my éclairs will take first place in the contest!” he said confidently.
“Nonsense my chocolate moose is the definite choice for any fair!” called a thin Hungarian woman at the door, it was Bianca.
“I'm a shoe in to win this year! I have my donutopia this year!” Michael the Spanish chief walked confidently in the room. The whistle blew that it was time for bed and the entire group headed for their rooms, all except Rocky.
“You’re going to sleep?” She asked her friends. “Did you hear the other bakers? We must protect the cake!” Her friends looked at each other then headed toward their bedroom.
“Fine! I will stay up all night myself,” she proclaimed.
Hours of waiting and nothing. Just then she saw a dark shadow and chased it all the way down to the caboose but then the figure vanished. She went back to the cake and everything seemed to be fine. Just then another figure ran past her, she took off like a rocket and cashed it all the way to the engine but all she found was the conductor shoveling coal. She sat back down in front of the cake thoroughly tired from the chase. They went through a tunnel and Rocky heard a large thud. When they came into the light the picture on the side of the wall was slanted slightly but the cake was fine or so it seemed. Soon Rocky’s eyelids fell closed.
Presently, Rocky stood up triumphantly proclaiming,
“I am now chief detective! I know who it was, it was chef Ego!” said Rocky. Everyone gasped. “No, now come to think of it the person I saw was much too big for Ego, so it was Bianca!” proclaimed Rocky. “No, her feet are much too small to have made the sound they did on the floor, so it was none other than chef Michael,” said Rocky.
“Wait a minute!” said Rebecca, “All of you go back to your rooms while we do a little digging!” Rebecca pulled out a pipe and checkered hat and put it on her small head.
“You saw someone?” inquired Rebecca. Rocky nodded. “And you chased them where?” Rebecca asked. Rocky led Rebecca into the caboose and explained how the figure had vanished.
“ Hmm, Interesting,” whispered Rebecca picking up something and putting it into an envelope. “I know who it is!” said Rebecca.
“But I need more evidence so where do you chase them next?” asked Rebecca. Rocky led her to the engine and explained how she saw the conductor. Rebecca picked up the conductor hat and slipped something into her envelope.
“Where to next?” she asked shaking her head. Rocky led her to the picture frame and Rebecca examined it closely, and then slipped something else into the evidence bag. She called everyone back to the scene of the crime.
“During our search we went to the caboose and found this!” she said as she pulled a small edge of a lace from a running shoe. They all looked at Allix who had her head hung low.
“I knew it!” exclaimed Rocky!
“Wait! That’s not all!” said Rebecca reaching into the bag “When we went to the engine we found this in the conductors hat!” She pulled out a long curly brown strand of hair. Everyone looked at Lily with horror; she too had her head low to the floor!
“Wait!” said Rebecca reaching once more into the evidence bag and pulling out a fake eyelash. Everyone looked at Savannah who had covered up her eye with her hair that morning!
“But why?” asked Rocky, Lily approached her
“We’re sorry but when you described it yesterday it sounded so wonderful!” A tear fell from lily’s eye, the others shook their head in agreement. Rocky thought for a moment but then nodded and spoke.
“Its ok, I’m sure we can tell the judges what happened and they would make an exception!” said Rocky with a smile. All the girls hugged each other. Chef Ego started crying and the other chef’s tear-up at the display of true friendship. The judges were kind to only knock off ten percent for the decor, the thing that mattered was they all were still friends and lived happily ever after!
