When I first read Angelina Lee’s review of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, I immediately agreed with her. I’m a total Harry Potter fan, but when Cursed Child came out, I was severely disappointed. Everybody I knew seemed to love the book; was I just being too picky? Apparently not. As Angelina put it, “The script reads like a thoughtfully written yet unimaginative fan fiction.” My thoughts exactly.

I don’t want to sound like a hater, but the script just didn’t seem like Rowling’s work. The events that took place were very out-of-character. Maybe my least favorite thing in literature is when later works set in the same world seem like they don’t have the same elements we know and love. I don’t even want to accept Cursed Child as part of the canon, it’s so out of place. Even though Rowling is one of my favorite authors, this script just isn’t for me.
