Swan Skater
I watched her twirl and spin upon the ice
Landing on a sharp skate so nice and swift
She wouldn’t make a mistake more than twice
I stood mesmerized when she nailed her lift
Wanting and wishing to be perfection
The glitter shimmered over legs like sticks
I was sure, a skater I should have been
A face of determination through tricks
Yet still pretty and graceful like a swan
Don’t you wonder what price she paid for it?
I won’t starve myself until I am gone
It’s better not to trade away my wit
She was real, but should stay a fantasy
She suffered for that, it was plain to see
