if i were a soldier
If I were a soldier
 Fighting a war
 I think that I’d die
 For what we’re fighting for

 Id hold my gun steady
 Ready to shoot
 This battle is heady
 There’s blood on my boot

 On a cold dreary day
 With gunshots all around
 The sight of poppy fields
 And newly dug grave mounds

 Fallen soldiers fighting with me
 Together we’d stand for victory
Feeling the losses of the day
The battle that was our misery

Counting the days till we get home
 We’d find ourselves dreaming
 of horrific sights
 Carved into our memories
 Always remembering

 But I’m not a soldier
I don’t know what it was like
 I never fought a war
 Never fought for someone’s life

 So I’ll wear this poppy
 In remembrance of them
 They fought for my country
 And im writing for them
