Don't Wait

Waiting for the dawn
Waiting for the sun
Waiting for the light to untie night's strings
And the sky to come undone

Waiting for an answer
Waiting for a call
Waiting for the thing that will come an beckon
Reaching for us all

Are we just going to stand here waiting?
On something that we don't even
Believe in
Are we just going to to sit in the shadows?
Waiting for tomorrow
But it never comes

Waiting for the next day
Waiting for the real thing
Waiting for the someday that doesn't exist
And still faintly hoping

Waiting for the news
Waiting for the sunrise
Waiting for the shout that it's happened
And we're all free to look alive

Are we just going to stand here waiting?
On something that we don't even
Believe in
Are we just going to sit in the shadows?
Waiting for tomorrow
When it never comes

Tomorrow is a false hope
We don't know
Got to live for today
If not we could be swept away
We could die tomorrow
Why do you waste the shadow?
Got to give it all today
Before you give your life away

Are we just going to stand here waiting?
On something that we know
Will never come
The hope that the dawn is bringing
Is lost on tempests
Give it up go home

Don't wait
Our hope is here
Don't crowd
I shout it clear
Don't cry
Here's the dawn
Don't wait
Before it's gone
Take the hope of today

Please, please don't wait

This is about when people say, "I'll start tomorrow." But what if tomorrow is too late? The hidden meaning for me is that Jesus gives you hope now, don't wait.

This is such a great poem! The rhythm of it really flowed well - all the repetition seemed to make it come alive. And, of course, the subject matter was poignant (and convincting to a waiting junior? There are somethings to wait for, and I guess that's what I'm doing...) At any rate! Wonderful poem!
